A well known Belgian beer is advertised as being "refreshingly expensive". I think these lenses will be "unaffordably expensive" for most of us here but I can't see Georges 'lens diet' lasting much longer than March 2007

I have no doubt that they will be "Stella(r)" performers.

The MZ-6 is perhaps the most modern AF film body that has no issue with old lenses. The MZ-S has no option to set the aperture on the body, and the *ist, good though it is, can't deal with the older lenses either. The MZ-6 can also use the wireless flash capabilities of the AF360FGZ and AF540FGZ flash units.
I bought a MZ-S in as new condition about 18 months ago thinking I'd get good use out of it. I've put 1 (one) film through it but taken many thousands of images with my *istD and K10D cameras.

Only when all other avenues have been thoroughly explored and the desired result is not yet achieved do we RTFM (Read The {enter your own F-Word} Manual)

Chris,

Could you just clarify when you expect (at the moment) to get your first batch?

Regards,

Welcome to the forum Phil.

One of Pentax's key strengths is the backwards compatibility of the K mount. You can even use M42 screw mount lenses with an adapter.

You'll need to hold that Tamron SP 500mm steady though, it becomes an enormously long 750mm on a Pentax DSLR. I have one too and I can't hold it steady, I can only use it with a tripod.

Sorry for the following "newbie" type questions:
No need to apologise, we all started from nothing.

Is noise at high iso's affected by the lens also or is it just affected by the capabilities of the sensor? Will the 16-45 suffer less noise than the 18-55?
Noise is caused by the sensor and it's associated electronics and software and as such, the lens itself does not cause noise. A particular scene taken at a specific ISO/shutter speed/aperture combination will exhibit more or less the same amount of noise irrespective of the lens used. A faster (wider maximum aperture) lens of course can be used to reduce noise by facilitating the use of wider apertures (smaller f-stop) and/or lower ISO, but fast lenses tend to be expensive and are generally the preserve of professionals, serious (read rich) hobbyists, and George .

Also, is it possible to achieve a very good quality picture at high ISO with the camera in hand and shake reduction on? (I guess what I mean to say is does the SR work well in this kind of situation or would there still be a need for a tripod?)
I've no experience of the K100D and nobody as yet has had their mits on a K10D but a good sturdy tripod and cable release is always going to be better than any electromechanical shake reduction system, even Pentax's. Pentax's SR is undoubtedly very good, but it will not solve all camera shake issues.

If your budget will stretch to it, try and find a K10D + SMCP-DA 16-45mm Combo. This lens is far superior to the 18-55mm kit lens.

Although you do know that Times Square is, in fact, the actual center of the entire Universe - not just this galaxy!!
Yes of course I know that, doesn't everybody?

Now when the nice men in white coats arrive, just do everything they say. You'll need to roll your sleeve up. After that, things'll get a bit hazy (if they aren't already).

I just placed my order for the K10D body and grip. $1083.75 USD including shipping.
So, where did you order it from and which continent is Sector Z-Z-9-plural-Z-Alpha on?

Is this a US source and US destination?

I'll definitely buy british. If I bought the K10D in Spain, the K10D2 will be out before it arrives . The only thing they do fast here . . . is drive. Everything can wait until tomorrow but, put a Spaniard behind the wheel of a car and he'll drive it as if he hasn't got a minute to live . . . crazy.
