Try not to break this one

If this happened to me I'd have asked for my money back long ago and if it was my first Pentax experience, it would have been my last.

You've had absolutely appaling treatment by both Jessops & Pentax and it is Jessops who are responsible for replacement. Can you imagine a professional photographer putting up with this ? I can't.

The only saving grace would be if you were to get a K100D in return, or even a K10D, and it didn't break . . .

And they reckon it needs software to fix it ? Not really likely, is it.

If this was a software issue, every camera of that model ever made would suffer the same problem given the same circumstances.

It seems to me that they are giving you the run around. Time to pay them a visit I think.

Exactly what software is it that they say they are waiting for ? Jessops say your camera is waiting for parts. Software does not constitute a 'part' in my experience. Pentax say they are waiting for software ? How comprehensively did you 'break' your camera to warrant new software ? ? ? ?

I think Jessops/Pentax need to get their act together and provide you with, at the very least, a new replacement camera and profuse apologies.

Don,

It's not quite clear to me which camera you are using but there is a cautionary note on page 158 of the DS manual which warns of possible malfunctions of the AF360FGZ (and presumably others) when combined with accessories having a different number of contacts EG The Hotshoe Grip.

Regards,

Thanks John. I'll probably stick with my K lens then. It's not so difficult to use on the D. Cheers.

I have the K (Pre M) version of this remarkable lens. Is there any significant improvement to be gained by my aquiring the SMCP-A version for use with Pentax DSLR's and occasional use on my MZ-S.

The K version is heavy and the A version allows a little better control from the camera.

Is there anything I've missed? Do I really need to fork out £400 for the A version (minus whatever I can get for the K version)? Are the images going to be noticeably better?

That all depends on what you call expensive?

I have 2 X *istD bodies and I've used the *istDS. The D, when fitted with a battery grip, is a fabulous camera to use and much simpler than a DS. As George says, many functions are accessible through buttons or dials rather than having to go into the menu system.

Like many others here, I can't wait to get my hands on a K10D, but I'll not part with my D's just yet. I sold the DS I had and kept the D's. They are far more versatile than the later models.

I am pleased with the results, but I want a system for field use.
Try 'stacking' two lenses. A 50mm say, reversed onto the front of a 200'ish mm to give roughly 4X (200/50) magnification. A zoom lens will do for the 200mm.

Cheers,

The Zoom control however, doesn't work.
