Nasty indeed.

I'm sure you will have tried most of what I'm about to suggest, but . . .

Do you have another card reader? Try connecting the camera via USB to eliminate the reader. If it's not that, replace the card. If that doesn't fix it, I am inclined to believe it's the camera.

That all assumes that you haven't got nasty stripes painted down the front of your 31mm Limited . . .

Wouldn't it be nice if Pentax would retrofit some of the K10D firmware goodies into the *istD.

I doubt that they will, but we can live in hope . . .

that simple.
Sorted. I had my 'AF when shutter button halfway' set to off. This technique requires it to be set to on, and the MF switch on the DA* 16-50mm still doesn't allow this to work. As somebody else has already stated, it's not a half bad reason to keep a smattering of MF lenses for when this might be useful.

I was actually trying to use this technique on Monday to capture birds of prey in flight at a zoo demonstration.

I had an excellent shot of an eagle owl with its wings outstretched, at eye level, about 6 feet in front of me. Yep, completely out of focus.

I have used it on the k10.
I suggest that if you want snap-in focus with your af lenses, that a little peice of cello/scotch tape (or even a strip of paper) over the contacts on the lensmount will do it, providing it's not too thick...
Thanks Don, I have enough manual lenses to try, just not with me at the moment. Your sticky tape/paper idea may well work but I'd rather not mess with my AF lenses. I was just curious to know which settings need to be turned on/off to achieve it.

Yep.
Thanks Chris, any chance you can add to that. I thought all that was needed was a MF lens and AF on the body. Clearly there is more to it. Do tell . . .

I know this is an old'ish thread but I thought I'd add the following:-

I was explaining to my son the possible uses of trap focus at the weekend and I tried to demonstrate it, and failed because I have only AF lenses with me at the moment.

Snap-in or trap focus doesn't work with the 16-50 DA* lens either. I was rather hoping that the AF/MF switch might fool the lens into behaving like a manual focus lens in this respect. It doesn't.

I can't actually think of a good reason for putting this switch on the lens body other than facilitating the choice of lens or camera body setting of AF/MF.

EDIT: I can't seem to make trap focus work on the K10D, even with an old Vivitar manual K mount lens. Has anybody actually got this to work on a K10D?

Peter has just got me going again, once I gave him my IP address. To find out what yours is, go to:

1: How does that affect only one PC?. I assume you have another that was not affected, or do you have access via multiple IP's?
2: Any user who is still banned will not read your message until their ban is lifted coz they can't get in to the forum.
3: My ban might have been lifted if my IP address changed, which it might, because my ISP (Telefonica) uses dynamic IP's (a pain).

Cheers,

What did you do to get unbanned? I have refreshed the page, deleted the cookies, and still I'm banned on one computer but not on another.

But I fear that Dan is off for the weekend now, having broken the cardinal rule of not doing upgrades on a Friday.

I didn't do anything George, other than email Pentax User via their 'contact us' facility.

After about 5 minutes I tried again, and got in.
