Attn: Dan - still banned

Dan,

I like your style. These efforts of yours to stimulate the user experience by banning people have certainly livened things up.

However, although I am assured by the moderators that I have NOT been banned, I am unable to access the forum on my main computer. I just get a page entitled "Critical Information" which says "You have been banned.........". Could you please email me and tell me what to do. Or, if the instructions are general, please post them here.

Thanks

Hi George,

you've probably seen it by now, but there's an explanatory post in the announcement's section, about login problems. Apparently it's nothing personal..

Cheers

Yes, thanks, but that was several hours ago, and I am still banned on my main computer.

I got the 'banned' message too. Putting a post in the anouncement section is of little use if you can't get into the site. Wouldn't an email to all members be more appropriate/effective?

What did you do to get unbanned? I have refreshed the page, deleted the cookies, and still I'm banned on one computer but not on another.

But I fear that Dan is off for the weekend now, having broken the cardinal rule of not doing upgrades on a Friday.

Hi all,
I've emailed the admin team about these continual. Not sure whether anyone is around at the moment I haven't had a reply.

There's been a few more spammers around, and I wonder if the admin team are trying to combat that... but backfiring on the regulars

Hopefully it'll be sorted out soon enough. Please be patient
...and have a great weekend

I didn't do anything George, other than email Pentax User via their 'contact us' facility.

After about 5 minutes I tried again, and got in.

Sorry everyone.
We have a problem. Not sure how to fix it either. Richard banned several spam IP addresses today. For some reason that's affected several members. Hi unblocked the IPs but that's not fixed the problem. We can't work out what to do? So we get rid of spam but with that goes half the Pentax User member list. Not exactly what we had in mind. The IT guys are off for the weekend now. Can I suggest if anyone is struggling to log in that they send me their IP address and I'll see if any have been put on the list by accident.
Thanks and sorry once again.
We didn't build this forum if it was hand built I could definitely resolve it.

1: How does that affect only one PC?. I assume you have another that was not affected, or do you have access via multiple IP's?
2: Any user who is still banned will not read your message until their ban is lifted coz they can't get in to the forum.
3: My ban might have been lifted if my IP address changed, which it might, because my ISP (Telefonica) uses dynamic IP's (a pain).

I have a network with 2 PCs on it. Each has a different IP address.

True, I suggested to PB that he put a message on the Banned page giving an email address to contact. However, he may not be able to do this without help,

I'm sure that's what happened. This must be useful for spammers.

yes I've just fixed another too. It seems that some of you guys or in the same IP range as the spammers and rather than delete a specific IP the tech guy removed a range.

Well I've been 'banned' for at least several hours but as I'm here now, I guess I've been pardoned
