Happysnappy,

We can probably help you but you do need to answer any questions we ask. Like "exactly which type of battery areyou using?" which has been asked at least twice, and remains unanswered..

Regards,

Apparently an M lens has just bare metal (can someone confirm this?), so all the contacts will short.
As far as I am aware, all Pentax (and clone) bayonet mount lenses have a chromed surface that mates with a similar chromed surface on the K mount camera bodies. All lenses and bodies from A series onwards also have a varying number of electrical contacts.

This problem sounds identical to an issue (documented in these forums) I had some time ago with a set of Jessops extension tubes. Although they were 'A' series compatible, they had only 6 or 7 contacts. The *istDS body I had at the time had one more contact than the tubes. The remaining contact surface was painted (insulated) and I had to scrape some of the paint off of these tubes to get the DS to function. Others here have employed the same remedy to good effect.

I think the same seems to be true of some/all screw lenses. Your aluminium foil idea would seem to work OK, the alternative would be to remove the paint from the body mounting surface of the lens. If its actually anadized, rather than painted, that might be a problem.

The weight issue occured to me just after I clicked 'submit'.

I'm very surprised that their 'weatherproofed' DSLR and DA* lenses aren't a main feature. Not even featured at all unless I missed something.

Some here might be interested to know that in my Slingshot 200, I carry (in the main cavity):-

K10D + Grip
FA 50 1:1.4 (on top of the flash)
DA 12-24mm (Left Rear)
DA* 16-50mm (Left Front or on the camera)
DA* 50-135mm (Left Front or on the camera)
AF540FGZ Flash (Right hand side)
8 x AA Eneloop batteries (spares for the flash)

But there is a problem in that I can't get the DA 12-24mm in the side pocket with it's hood. Instead, the 12-24 and the 16-50 share the hood from the 10-24 (Same fitting, slightly shorter/wider than the 16-50's hood). No problems so far using the wrong hood on the 16-50.

This combination ensures that whichever lens is on the camera, I have room to store all of the others. When I use the 50mm, I keep the camera out of the bag and whichever lens was on it, goes in the camera's space inside the bag.

I'd have room for a 2x'ish teleconverter in the top too but I don't yet have a decent enough one.

Could be that they have been breaking kits (more demand for K10D body only ) and are now selling off surplus kit lens.

SRS have this lens listed for £39
Ah, thanks.

I am rather new to this LBA. I already have this lens, but I would like a little more reach, so is it likely that there could be a surplus of, say, 50-200 in the near future?

Richard
Look around for deals on the Samsung version, often much cheaper than the Pentax badged lens. Both are optically identical, only the cosmetics are different, and the name of course.

I bought the Samsung 50-200mm brand new and boxed for £50 + carriage and it is a superb performer.

Well at £36.99 including postage it'd be foolish not to . . . so I did. It'll go well with my £58.00 Samsung 50-200mm.

So now I have a reasonably lightweight kit (*istD + grip + 18-55 + 50-200 + AF360FGZ) to keep in the car.

Sorted.

Thanks for the link Richard.

No catch. The Samsung badged lens is on the same site at £169.00.

Bargain, go for it if you need one.

It looked a tad bigger in the viewfinder.
It was, the viewfinder shows only 95% of the captured image.

Nice composition. One thing though. Something didn't look quite right so I checked it in Lightroom which confirmed my suspicion that the horizon (waters edge left to waters edge right) is not quite horizontal.
