It doesn't look like a used lens, so what is the catch?

No catch. The Samsung badged lens is on the same site at £169.00.

Bargain, go for it if you need one.

Could be that they have been breaking kits (more demand for K10D body only ) and are now selling off surplus kit lens.

SRS have this lens listed for £39

Well at £36.99 including postage it'd be foolish not to . . . so I did. It'll go well with my £58.00 Samsung 50-200mm.

So now I have a reasonably lightweight kit (*istD + grip + 18-55 + 50-200 + AF360FGZ) to keep in the car.

Sorted.

Thanks for the link Richard.

I am surprised there is a market for the 18-55 lens (or any 18-55 lens for that matter) because of the price....and the fact that there are several for sale on ebay and it's the standard lens with the *ist DS/DL/K100/K110 and K10....

I'd sell my lightly used one if you'd name a sensible price, as I need to have a bit of a clear out

Don't be surpised there is one on Ebay now with a bid for £50. Typically they have been selling for between £30 -£40

I wonder if Pentax have any plans to offer a new 'kit lens' when the K?D is released?

Ah, thanks.

I am rather new to this LBA. I already have this lens, but I would like a little more reach, so is it likely that there could be a surplus of, say, 50-200 in the near future?

Look around for deals on the Samsung version, often much cheaper than the Pentax badged lens. Both are optically identical, only the cosmetics are different, and the name of course.

I bought the Samsung 50-200mm brand new and boxed for £50 + carriage and it is a superb performer.

The Pentax 50-200 is in short supply at the moment, they regularly turn up on EBay but are selling for around £120 at the moment

Grrrr. It might be worth a call.

Pentax should be selling these by the million......

They are selling extremely well, either on their own, or as part of of kit and that is the problem, not for the first time Pentax have been caught out by higher than expected demand.

All this is great for the long term, as Pentax should benefit from economies of scale, become more profitable and secure.

In the meantime, I guess we all have to show a little patience.

Agreed.

Another frustration si the apparently random pricing of this lens - £49 at Jacobs online a while ago and now back to full price. Needless to say I missed out at £49 : (
