Its either a Blue tongue or a shingleback if i am not mistaken
Interesting, it looks just like a scratch to me. I'd never have guessed it was anything potentially more serious.

There are Pentax long telephotos to be found, plus some interesting unusual zooms as well, but they are indeed very rare and very expensive.
The Pentax Imaging web site lists a number of long lenses.

Are any of them currently in production?
Whilst they are listed, if you click 'Buy Now' you'll not find them available for purchase.

I like the winning shot . . . but . . . I have to say . . .

Was this road closed to the public?

Only one hand on the steering wheel at 50MPH ! ! !

Camera up to the drivers face (I hope he wasn't looking through the viewfinder).

I love the shot and it is a worthy winner but I would not encourage others to try and emulate it except on a closed/private road.

You should have said you wanted one Kim, I've got three of them holding up a flower pot on my terrace. Well I don't like the bottom of the pot staying wet after it's been watered. They're not valuable, are they ?

The red dot indicates where the multi focus point was chosen and like mattmatic suggests, it is more reliable to use the centre focus only option and then re-compose if using this method.
According to the K10D manual, lenses in the A series can only use the centre spot for focussing on the K10D (and other DSLR's I think). I'm pretty sure that the same is true of older lenses too.

And yes, it is the green hexagon in the viewfinder that provides focus confirmation.

The only new lens on the latest roadmap is the 18-250. The 17-70 has been on the map for ages, as have the two 35s, and the 55-300 was at one time a 70-300.

I've obviously not being paying close enough attention as I don't recall seeing them before.

The DA 35 Macro was there before but I don't remember the 17-70 or 55-300 or 35 SDM being there.

Pentax has updated their lens roadmap to include a DA 35mm SDM prime, and DA 17-70mm and 55-300mm zooms. No availibility info as yet.

The recently announced 18-250mm zoom is on there too, expected availability October 2007 (make that March 200.

I find it curious that these new zooms are not using SDM focussing.
