Anyone tried Jessops 300AFD with the K10D ?

Has anyone tried the Jessops 300AFD with the K10D ?

Does it do PTTL ?

There seems to be very little information about this gun but it's a great price if it does PTTL.

I've just ordered one from Jessops who are currently selling it online for £49.99...!

Should arrive tomorrow - I'll post how I get on with it and my K100.

I think it's TTL only and can only be used in full auto or full manual on the K10D. PTTL will not work, neither will TTL.

I got one too (you can get an extra £5 off if you Google for Jessops coupons/vouchers, makes it £45).
It has no controls apart from on, first and rear curtain flash settings. Two LEDs, red for 'ready charged', green for 'auto is on'.
It has the IR focus beam too.
It's definitely not PTTL (expected) but does seem to be TTL somehow... if I set to say F3.5 it flashes with correct exposure and recharges very quickly. If you up to say F16, it gives a full blast with recharge around 5 or 6 seconds so it's metering somehow.
Sadly, if you point at something predominantly white, it seems to over-expose. The flash settings are still available through the FN button so you can dial -1 to compensate.
It's strange really as the instructions are rubbish so it's trial and error (good thing this isn't 35mm film).
Seems like it will be fine for my very occasional use (and it's digital safe low voltage).
Any other comments from users will be interesting.

So it seems to at least track exposure settings and also allows compensation ? That's better than I was expecting.

Looks like my little two year old is going to have to put up with being photographed a LOT today...

Never mind £45, I just bought it for £37.49. If you search for codes, there's 25% off Jessop's own branded products. And I collected in store, so no delivery charge. Ok, I'll admit it: I'm a cheapskate!

PS It's working well.

Yes, it does work well. I'm getting much more natural results, especially using bounce, compared to the built-in unit.

Using mostly in programmed exposure.

No, the 300AFD is still listed at £49.99.

The 360AFD is £149. At that price I'd go for a proper P-TTL Pentax gun, though.

Your right - obviously mixed up my model numbers, how do people rate the 300AFD, are there any other similiar priced alternatives (I don't do much flash photography but handy to have one just in case)

As I've said, It's actually quite good - I've had some great results. It DOES overexpose occasionally if you point it at a predominently white surface, but other than that I'm well pleased.

Having said that, I would have baulked at paying the original £100 for it. It doesn't feel like £100 worth of kit (Canon and Nikon users would do better to look elsewhere), but a bargain at half that.

Not sure of any other dedicated guns at this price.
