Is anybody here able to make a direct comparison of the results of these 2 lenses ? I'm primarily interested in the Sigma's performance at 300mm.

Here's what I know about the spec's:

  • Make------Filter---------Weight---------Min. Foc--------Blades----Price (SRS)
    Pentax------77-----------1070g----------140cm------------9--------£849
    Sigma-------82----------1440g-----------180cm------------9--------£759

For me, the Pentax wins on weight and minimum focus distance, but how do images compare at 300mm? Prices are too similar to be an issue.

Thanks in advance for any info.[/list]

Rich colours but still a bit too holiday snap'ish for me. How about a close up of an arch, or tower . . .

BTW: Portmeirion is spelled in one word.

I don't suppose you saw No. 6 whilst you were there, he's gone missing.

Carbon footprint is all about emissions, not consumption. The two are of course linked in that the carbon locked up in a fossil fuel is released as it's consumed (burnt by engines of various types) but some vehicles will produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions per litre/gallon of fuel than others.

In Spain (where I live) road tax is calculated on the manufacturer's claimed CO2 output. Fuel efficient vehicles pay less road tax.

Both my wife and I have a car, both Citroen, one a C3 and the other a C4, both do around 60MPG (4.5 litres per 100 Km) and have very low emission ratings. Our combined annual road tax bill is about 110 Euro (£87) and we have excellent roads here.

Another important factor is that an area of Indonesian rain forest equal in size to Wales is lost every year to landowners greed for a cash crop. The favourite seems to be palm oil, to produce bio-diesel and cooking oil. What's happening to the trees ? They are being burned and all the carbon locked up inside them is heading skywards.

Lost habitat, wildlife and plant species is a whole different debate.

Lilly,

Surely the lens of choice just has to be the 31mm Limited. Save a bit longer and own one of the best lenses on the planet (assuming its wide enough for your needs).

Perhaps I should have posted it in the troubleshooter forum

Anyway Matt will probably move it
Perhaps you ought to post your question on an Adobe Photoshop CS3 forum, that would seem to make more sense to me.

I really want one too

I just bought the second K10 body, and I can't wait to have some cash on the side for a 31mm. I was also looking at the ones from Hong kong, because they seem to have very interesting prices.

I would also be happy to forget all the other lenses... By the way, George, do you have any images taken with the 31mm? I would love to see some!

Cheers,

Nathan
Buy one now.

They are apparantly no longer in production which means they will be difficult to find when present stocks are sold. the 31mm is arguably the best of the three FA Ltd's too.

If Samtax comes up with a FF DSLR (and it's looking more likely) in the next couple of years, they'll soon be snapped up because they are FA (Full Frame) lenses.

It is of course possible that production of these FA Limited lenses may be resurrected at a later date, but still, buy one now . . . you know it makes sense .

In theory, with a product like Adobe Lightroom where you can setup a 'watched' folder, you could use Pentax Remote Assistant, save it's files to the 'watched' folder and it should work fine.

My experience is . . . it doesn't. You may find differently.

It's a Hoopoe. Common in Spain.
