Finally ordered a 31mm Limited!

As the title says, finally got round to ordering a 31mm Limited today!

Decided after a lot of thought to take the plunge and order it from abroad because the cost difference was quite a lot! Price paid brand new was £410 inc. postage, and worked out that if I do get caught for import duty (7%?) and VAT it would still only work out at £515.

Cheapest UK prices I can seem to find are around £680 (SRS), so even if it does go through the official channels, the savings do seem to be worth it in this case.

Delivery has been quoted at around 2 weeks, so when it arrives I will report back on the experience with details of seller etc.

PS, yes Hefty, when it comes you can have a play!

The only drawback to the 31mm Ltd is that it will spoil you for all other lenses.

But you won't regret buying it.

I just bought the second K10 body, and I can't wait to have some cash on the side for a 31mm. I was also looking at the ones from Hong kong, because they seem to have very interesting prices.

I would also be happy to forget all the other lenses... By the way, George, do you have any images taken with the 31mm? I would love to see some!

Buy one now.

They are apparantly no longer in production which means they will be difficult to find when present stocks are sold. the 31mm is arguably the best of the three FA Ltd's too.

If Samtax comes up with a FF DSLR (and it's looking more likely) in the next couple of years, they'll soon be snapped up because they are FA (Full Frame) lenses.

It is of course possible that production of these FA Limited lenses may be resurrected at a later date, but still, buy one now . . . you know it makes sense .

I got a 31mm Ltd today and am totally blown away! I shot off around 50 shots on my K20D in a matter of 30 minutes or so in my back garden (nothing of any artistic merit) and am well impressed. Sharpness, contrast and colour are outstanding.

You won't be disapointed.

Just had the phone call from UPS!

Will be arriving Monday morning, with £55 import duty to pay, not too bad.

The cheapest i can get it in Aust (and its not in the country yet) is AU$2150. Yuk (1000quid approx.)

It's an ebay store thats been mentioned before, but I think you were put off by them If I remember? Prodigital2000 based in Canada. Everything seems to be going very well at the moment though, will keep you posted.

I dealt with them for two lenses. They are terrible at email and even phone communication. They did not send a receipt via email as requested. They overcharged me on shipping. But they did declare a lower value to avoid duty.

When I raised some issues on another forum this finally got their attention and I received an email response. This included a PDF of the receipt. They offered to discount my next purchase by $3, the amount they say I was overcharged. However by my calculations this should be $18. And I don't know why I should have to buy again just to have a previous mistake rectified. Plus all the time it took to sort this out is not billable.

They do not pack their lenses very robustly - the retail box goes directly into a padded envelope. This may be enough in some cases but not others. I am now thinking one of the lenses as received might have been put out of alignment. When I can afford the down-time I'm sending it off to Pentax.

They are, however, very inexpensive. The delivery was timely. But price is not everything. I have bought three times since, but not from them.

Well it has arrived! Wrapped in large bubble wrap, undamaged and is a new product. Just put it on the camera to make sure it works ok, again no problems.

So based on what I can see so far, would definately use again when the price difference is this much! Hope this assessment doesn't change after I get the chance to test it properly!
