Some designs lock up the mirror when the batteries are too low to function properly, so that's the first place to start.
As is always the bloody case, I don't have any fresh batteries and my AA-using battery grip has gone walkies!

Cheers to all, once I can find the grip I'll try it out. Our of interest, the battery warning didn't come on, is time-degradation a different issue to exhaustion in batteries?
Are you in such a remote part of the world that you can't get new batteries?

Have been reading up a bit on Gary Fong's Lightsphere. Seems good, although not cheap, but would quite happliy spend that if it is good (have a wedding to do soon!). Anyone had any experience with one?
Have you had a look at his Whale Tail product. Looks awesome, so does the price.

The AF540FGZ (540) has a guide number of 54 @ISO100 and is therfore more powerful than the AF360FGZ (360) which has a GN of 36.
The 540 has a tilt 'n swivel head, the 360 has only tilt.
The 540's battery door catches are more robust than the 360's which are prone to damage.

Perhaps you'd better explain the title then What does 35-105/135mm mean?

Do you mean smc PENTAX-F ZOOM 1:4-5.6 35-105mm ?

On re-reading your title, am I right in thinking you'd like to get your hands on either a 35-105mm or a 35-135mm zoom lens?

I have 2 Lowepro shoulder bags, an AW300 and an AW500. I find both of them to be very spacious but also very painful to carry around for a day. They are now demoted to being storage bags.

I much prefer the Lowepro Slingshot 200AW for a small kit - camera, flash, a couple of lenses, bottle of water.
For a longer day and more varied shooting opportunities I prefer my Lowepro Mini-Trekker AW backpack.

I've considered buying a bigger pack to take more gear, but I decided not to as the fully loaded Mini-Trekker is about as much as I can carry for a day anyway. I might consider replacing it with a Tamrac Expedition 7, it's a little bigger and has some handy and acccesible pockets.

The one criticism I have of the Mini-Trekker is the drop-down flap to house the tripod legs. When carrying a tripod, you can't easily sit with the pack on, and with the pack off, it won't stand upright, it needs to be laid down. Minor points, but irritating sometimes.

The MZ-6 or MZ-S have just about all of the 'bells 'n whistles' you might need. Both have wireless flash control too.

I think you can delete your own posts but only if it is the last in the thread, not if someone has posted later in the same thread.

Dirk : I got so annoyed at trying to use Silkypix on my first ever RAW photos I have un-installed it ! I too could not find out how to 'save' images; I find it very difficult, even reading the manual and the guide on this site - Jpegs RULE - OK !!
As far as I know, there is no Save option in any RAW converter. I use Adobe Lightroom and Phase One - Capture One, neither has a Save function.

The changes you make are stored in additional files, the RAW (PEF/DNG) file remains unchanged, so there's nothing to save.

JPG's afford simple post processing and use less storage space. RAW (PEF/DNG) files together with good post processing software offers so much more. I prefer RAW.

I've been thinking about replacing my FA 28-200, which I only use for aerial photo's for it's zoom range, with the DA 18-250. These pic's have made my mind up. Excellent performance.
