Market share actually has little to do with making the decision to quit the market or not. If the market share they do have means that they are still profitable, they can still continue to grow, albeit at a slower rate than their competitors.

Market share more closely relates to marketing budget. Sony are throwing millions of whatever currency is necessary into their marketing budget, but that does not mean their cameras/optics are better than Pentax, or that they are more profitable. Probably the reverse actually.

Almost all business decisions nowadays are made based on profitability, not technical merit.

To answer your question, if I had to change, it'd be to Nikon. As I have a *istD, K10D, and a K20D, and more glass and other accessories than I need, I don't see that day coming any time soon.

I have a 80-320mm under offer with a forum member at the moment. I should know today if he wants it. If not, it'll be available and in UK on Monday.

How about a netbook with an external DVD writer? No idea if that would work as you want, but it might be worth looking into.

Asus EEEPC1000H

DVD writer

Dan, that's a CD writer/DVD reader, not a DVD writer.

I'm open to reasonable (read very good) offers

These lenses are as rare as hens teeth alongside rocking horse manure.

The attachment lens on mine has some de-lamination to the coating. This screw on lens reduces the minimum focussing distance from something like 6 metres to about 3 metres I think, but at the cost of no infinity focus. I've never used it on mine. The 135-600mm lens itself is in perfect condition and is a fabulous wildlife lens.

Your links don't work for me Liam. They just link back to your post.

The MicroMate is a USB SD/SDHC card reader. I bought two of these cards which I use in my K20D with no problem except that they are not backwards compatible with SD card readers. This includes my Jobo GigaOne storage device which can't use them.

I think I may well stick to SD cards in the future. The 2Gb max size for the Sandisk version, which I use exclusively, is not a problem for me. I'll just have to buy more of them, then at least I can still use my GigaOne.

Nice set of shots Brian.

Tell us, as these where taken in a studio environment, presumably with studio flash lighting, does the Nikon flash system actually give you much advantage?

What exactly are you using to trigger this camera. In your first post you say it's a laser line (which I've assumed to be a device employing laser light). In another post, you say it's a piece of string.

I'm confused, have I missed something?

If the camera is set to totally manual operation and is not in power save (turned off) mode at the time it is triggered, the results should be consistent.

You'll need to set manual focus, manual shutter, manual aperture, and make sure the camera is on at the time the horses cross the finish line.

This all assumes that it is the camera set-up causing this, have you had the laser trigger device checked?
