I use the Tamron 10-24.

I think it is a great lens but I don't use it as often as I should.

I have posted a couple of images from it into a previous post.....link

I bought the lens to give me the field of view that my old Tamron 24mm lens gave me on film but of course it gives a greater range.

I used to shoot alot with the 24mm and have wondered why I don't with the 10-24 and the only reason I can think of is down to the size of these WA Zoom lenses.

This is probably the main reason I am lusting after the DA15ltd. Which is much smaller and easily pocketed for traveling.

I will have to stick it on my camera and take out for the day again soon.

But the Tammy is great value and a pretty good lens in IMO.
(but if you look at my lens line up - I have more Tamron lenses than anything and the older Tammy's are the reason I bought back into Pentax after many years with Nikon...a £15 mount and all of my old Tamron Adaptalls fitted straight onto the K100D!!)

I used Foam Cleaner from RS/Farnell to clean the sticking zoom switch on my girlfriends Panasonic Compact when that became sticky (Beer at a gig!!)

I sprayed a liberal amount onto the offending device (battery removed) operated the switch several times and then dryed using a can of compressed air.

The camera has gone to see Appocalypitica tonight and I'm stuck at work!

I have been pondering a lens purchase for a little while now having convinced myself that despite having the great flexibility that my zOOOms offer me – from 10-300mm uninterrupted - I am now missing something that I had in the days of film where I feel I enjoys photography more.

I used to take my use my Tamron 24 and 135’s and a 55mm just about everywhere supplemented by a 70-300mm zoom. The only lens I wished for then was a 28mm for when 24 was just too wide.

I still have the 24 & 135 now supplemented by an SP90 macro and an A50 f1.7. (Ignoring the zooms)

I wonder whether either the 15 or 21 ltd will bring me some of the enjoyment that I miss.

What is missing? Well the convenience of the zooms mean that I can zoom in and out composing my shots without having to physically move about getting into positions and places that I now miss when using the zooms. Of course I could just do the same with the zoom attached but for some reason I don’t – I don’t have to after all!

The question...........Which one? Are there any of you who have either or both of these who wouldn’t mind sharing opinions / images?

I am leaning towards the 21 mainly because I think it might be more useable in general than the ultra wide perspective of the 15 but................I ain’t so sure................over to you.

Hi Greg,

I used to be a prime user in the days of film. I used a Nikon FA with 24mm and 135mm Tamrons, a micro nikkor 55mm and a lovely f2.8 200mm Soligor I-S. I also really enjoyed my photography. When I went digital I chose a K100D so that I could keep using these lenses - Of course I bought a couple of zooms to go with the kit to cover 10-300mm! Fantastic! Well not quite. I now stand still and zoom in and out rather than moving around and looking for the shot. In the last week or two I have been taking the 24mm and a Tamron 90mm macro out more and more to force myself to start thinking again. I now lust after the DA15 & 21 ltds and see myself splashing out for the 21 for xmouse.

I'd say stick with your original thoughts but don't discount the DA Ltds either.

For me zooms have changed the way I take photos in a way I don't like. So for me in the short term I'll be back to the primes that I have, inc SMC-A 50mm f1.7, until Santa brings me the DA Ltd!

I have a Tamron 135mm f2.5 ADII. It is a great little lens - nice and bright, easy to focus with very decent results. The only drawback is that contrast is not as good as comparable Pentax lenses (so I am told) but nothing that cannot be sorted is PP.

This lens and it's little brother, the 24mm f2.5 are the main reasons that I came back to Pentax after many years using Nikon.

Samyang also do an 8mm f3.5 fish eye and a 14mm f2.8 lens both seemingly offering great value if the 85mm is as good as people say!

I once asked the same question.

I considered both the Tamron and the Sigma and in the end went for the Tamron for the 4mm, the slightly bigger aperture and the feel.

I have no complaints with this lens regarding sharpness or anything.

On camera it just felt better to me than the Sigma.

A few images.......

All in all its a nice lens. I like the feel and I am happy with the results. I'm sure users of the Sigma 10-20mm would say the same. My advice would be to pop to a shop and try them on your camera.

I would also suggest trying a new set of batteries.

I have a KM Z2 bridge camera that was bought to suppliment my film SLR and to see if I could "get on with" digital.

It to exhibited the same symptoms - I even took it back to Jessops from whence it came and was advised to replace it - which I eventually did with my K100D.

I recently tried a set of eneloops that I use in my K100D and the old thing worked!!

So before you send it off or take it in get a set of eneloop type batteries or even a set of Energizer Lithium's.

Hopefully that's all it'll need
