Another convert here. The 55-300 is so good for the money it's unbelievable. I got mine used for less than half of the price of a new one. Liked it so much, I bought a new WR version the moment some disposable income came my way All in all, well worth even saving up for a while and buying it instead of 50-200 one in my eyes.

Judging by the mount to body ratio - it's in a 'handy' size for FF! Awesome.

Or check on the Tesco ones. If they don't have the same designation, chances are player is incompatible.

Hm just realized this is a very old post. This is the second time something from back in 2009 pops up under New Topics lol. Seems like a little forum glitch?

I have a basic Wordpress based site to share photos with my social media shy family. I find it works rather well. It's a fairly easy learning curve to set one up. I use TSOHost, even their shared hosting is pretty good and they have excellent customer service which is always nice when you are starting out.

Wordpress is free so the initial cost is the cost of a template, should you opt for a premium one - between 40-60 USD; or you can browse a number of free ones as well. Some are lovely. So essentially you need to buy a domain, which is a yearly cost of 5-10 GBP and a monthly hosting plan - cheapest is fine, with a decent host, again, somewhere around a fiver a month..

I'll be happy to help guide you through it should you opt for that.

P.S. We appear to be 'sharing' a quote

He 'stands' out a bit but it's far from screaming 'I am fake' . Especially considering it's a family photo and not a competition submission
If you're using Topaz, might want to download their Lens Effects trial. I haven't used it personally but according to the description on their site, it's meant exactly for that purpose.

And lastly, maybe it's just me, but not all portraits need a shallow DoF. He's a lovely boy with a cute smile. You'd need much more than a house and some trees to distract from that. Sometimes, capturing the moment is way more important than perfect technique.

A "level playing field" is not as easy as we might imagine. Also, a £1000 lens might make for sharper images than a £50 lens. That too changes the fairness or otherwise of a competition.
By all means, that's where ability to PP comes into play - making the gear gap a tad less annoying I'd imagine.

It's one of those things if we just take it as read and go out and enjoy making images, being very careful we compose and expose them accurately, then we have the essence of a fun competition. The more we analyse it, the more difficult it becomes.
Hard not to agree with that. Ultimately it's all about the fun/challenge/participation
