thanks Dan that illustrates what I wanted to know, in fact that horizon is no worse than the 18-55 at 18mm, very acceptable - brother's head demonstrates well not to go too close tho' (ps-wd have been a nice entry for 'motion'!)
thanks again everyone for yr help....Lilly

I too am wondering if the 10-20 Sigma is going to be ideal for my needs.

Can anyone tell me (by example if possible) what the distortion effects are if photographing say people up close in a street scene, do you get massive distortion of main subject and out to sides?
It's not the sort of shot I take much of, however I've found the Sigma pretty well corrected for a lens that wide. You can get quite unusual results with people just due to perspective though. This one of my wife on the trampoline in our garden being an example:

Was that at 10mm?

I ask because I am aware the the 18-55 gives me bendy horizons as it is at 18mm, so will the Sigma 10-20 be a lot worse? Or is it a better lens

Cheers Lilly

First one yes is fabulous, love the subtle green bokeh, suits it well.
I am trying to decide between a 10-20 WA and a Macro, back to macro again - wish I cd have both!

PS for DIRK:

Slap Generic term for make-up.

"I'll look beautiful once I've put on a bit of slap."
"I seriously doubt it, Brian."

I am somewhat surprised (and disappointed) at the number of 'photoshopped' entries, some are obvious but not mentioned, others are mentioned but not obvious (to me anyway).

is this competition for the 'final image' regardless of how achieved, or is it to be an image subjected only to minor post processing?

I ask because I can get some wonderful skies off the web to spice up some of my mundane photo's. or I can get some excellent grand canyon shots to go with my moody skies.

yours devils advocatly,
I have just checked into this thread and just wish to set the record straight for my own satisfaction that my sky was as it came on the day.

Not that I think above comments was directed at me personally, but must admit I had to scan through them all to see which one he was referring to!

I actually have never got around to PSing a sky from another time and another place into an image of mine.
I like to try and keep my images as au naturalle as possible.

Anyway, here is mine without the slap on, warts and all!
