Yes Don, I was leaning backwards slightly to get it all in!
I have come to the conclusion that 'distortion' is in the eye of the beholder
I am off to a Cornish kilted wedding now with my new lens, hoping the wild and woolly weather will abate!

loving this lens very much already, optics are superb and happy with the only slight distortion properties, very pleased I made this choice, thanks for your advice to those concerned..

Huey Pro arrived this pm and I have calibrated my monitor at long last.
Procedure was pretty simple, but:

a) my screen now looks more pink, which is off putting, is this normal?

b) the instructions do not seem to take into consideration what your backlight on LCD monitor would be set at, mine was set at 60.
Or if the screen should have Input sensing switch to 'auto on'?
Do you think this affects the calibration at all?

Cheers Lilly

Thanks everyone for your time and advice, this afternoon I went for the Huey Pro £87 Morris Photo inc p&p., sd be with me tomorrow.

Decided in the end to invest the 30quid extra for the PRO. Mainly because if in the future I do need to use it on a MAC laptop, I will be able to alter the Gamma etc, plus the PRO measures the various color patches (about 30 in all). This is one area that improves over the original Huey, which only measured about 15 colors.

Not sure if I have wasted 30quid but I think I have the version that will cover most eventualites. I will resist twiddling the default settings until needed Adam! thanks for that advice!

This was the review that swung it for me for those trying to decide: http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews_huey_pro.php

Just bought the Spyder3elite. Is a little more expensive, i know. I think every system is good aslong as it let's you take control over gamma and color tempeture. The less expensive ones like the pantone huey(basic version) and Spyderexpress won't give you the option to control colortemp. and gamma. Either way............,you will most certainly be suprised about the difference of your screencolors before and after. Calibrating your monitor is the first and most important step in precieving the perfect print.

good luck,
Martin
Just trying to get my head around this and as you seem to know more than I, this subject scares me, can you please explain simply why I would want to be able to change the color temp and gamma anyway?

I am thinking to get the Huey and not sure whether to get the Pantone or Pro versions.
I have just one LCD monitor and need to get my images accurately displayed so they print the same as what I see.
There are just too many choices and getting confused!

Hefty1: A straight forward shot of items waiting recycling, I like the way its split in half but feel the lighting could have been adjusted for more atmosphere, bit soft also.

Dirk1000: I found the lighting (flash?) very flat and kills what could have been a nice portrait, skin tone a bit orangey and not too sharp.

Clarky: another straight forward record shot of a recycling dump, sorry but not a lot of interest to keep my attention, sorry Clarky.

Niblue: a wonderful candid shot loved it, perfectly executed and very sweet but feel it only just comes under ‘recycled’.

Daniel Bridge: very nice, Dan the macro man, an image of an item that has been recycled, a champagne cork cage. Well produced, scale ref inc., did you set it up specially and what is the relevance of ‘Elyce’? Well deserved FIRST PLACE.

AJ: I love this also, I love the way all the vertical and horizontals play with your eyes, it has many visual planes and the orange item in front works as it draws the eye into the scene.

John Riley: there is no denying it is recycled and a monster! I did find the stone building distracting, I might have been tempted to go in tighter and from a more unusual angle and played with the DOF to focus on some of the recycled items, main subject didn’t seem very sharp to me either.

Deecy: Great shot, nice angle, adds a bit of drama, DOF perfect and fits the remit. HIGHLY COMMENDED

Nimitz: I like the patterned affect of this and the soft misty backdrop, however, the left tree trunk spoils it for me, drags my eye to left. Cropping the tree improves the shot IMHO!

Sussexsurfer: Ingenious, someone who is thinking outside of the box! Very good, slams it in your face ‘recycled’. Like the subtle touch of the mono print in the box! A shot that is very original and plays with the mind. SECOND PLACE

Utopia Poppy: Bit of an untidy lot down there in Aylesbury, blimey, what will it be like after Christmas! To give this a bit more impact I would have cropped tighter on top and left hand side, a levels adjustment would have given the colour tonal range more oomph!

Unlocker: You are an untidy lot in Aylesbury , suppose this is the same location? Now, I hope you do not mind, apologies if you do, but I thought this would be ideal for a mono shot, lots of great tones, so I took the liberty of illustrating how this image could be improved from a different 'angle'.

Lenscape: Very neat and very simple well set up shot. Technically good and yes fits the bill, batteries are being recycled once recharged. THIRD PLACE

Well done Dan again, and everyone for entering for a theme that was not as straight forward as I thought at the time of conception.
VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL, I am off for the first of the day, have a good one, over to you Dan!
