Hi All,
been a few years since I was here! I have a gorgeous Pentax prime lens 50mm SMC FA 1.4
Recently I have not been able to focus at infinity either by manual or auto focus.
Otherwise the lens is working well.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it a send away repair job or are their any tricks I can try myself?

Many thanks

Lilly

I have a much loved Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens and yesterday I lost the lens hood on the beach., grrrrr. To replace is going to cost me 30 quid new. Just wondering if anyone has one that is minus a lens! Worth a shot

Thanks for all your help, I sold it for 195 in the end, inc a cheap 4GB card and lens filter, so not too bad... saves on the hassle of advertising etc...

quite emotional letting it go initially , my first DSLR ... awhhhhh

It has been a long time since I have done this so bear with me! Well done all for having a go at this, some of you may have been out of your comfort zone but that is good, I hope it has inspired you to further experiment in the mono world and you enjoyed the ride.

I have based my judging on Albert Watson's mantra (now mine!) …Memorabilty, Charisma and Artistic Intent, so here goes…..

Pezking

A very good start with this image, vignette is subtle as it should be and the eye focuses right on the strings, I would have applied a bit more contrast but DOF is very good. The little blob puzzles me though?

Prsjnb

A lovely subject, but the vignette is not subtle and natural greater feathering (pardon the pun!) should have been applied. Again more contrast is needed be brave with mono it lends itself to drama to focus the eye and interest. A liitle dodging and burning on the bird would have brought out the textures of the plumage.

TOZZA27

This made me smile immediately, its very cheeky and has charisma, a great portrait, natural and speaks volumes of the lady. Vignette here is just a little heavy handed, apply more feathering and it will be spot on, contrast good.

DrOrloff

Oh Dr, what a great image very clever indeed, I wonder how you managed this. Not so much a vignette as suspended in a black hole but very well executed and memorable.

Sandinista

Fabulous landscape full of drama and interest which leads you in and around, the mono conversion is superb a wide range of tones to hold the eye and vignette very complimentary as it should be.

Simonarron

I am sure this was a difficult image to capture but forgive me if it is the size of image but is it quite sharp? Vignette is applied well but again lacking in contrast, you could have really bumped it up to give more drama and focus it seems a little flat in tonal range. I opened it up in Levels and moved the right slider bar left to edge of histogram and it was much improved.

Frankie

Tranquil Barbican scene ( I was there on Sunday!) the vignette is well applied with subtle soft focus at the edges which suits the subject well.

Frogherder

A very high key image that needed gentler vignette feathering, I feel I have been denied so much of the image. View point for subject good and I am sure the vicar would love this for the church.

Blaze

A candid shot that has emotion well caught. The fading to white vignette actually suits this subject quite well because of the snow as it has been very subtly applied. Nice mono conversion as well.

Darkskies

What a dark brooding atmospheric image. Firstly, the black border IMHO does not compliment the image, image has enough presence by itself. I wanted some lighter highlights, higher notes at the centre at the source of light on the leaves and rocks, when I tried this it really added direction and heightened the tonal range, with a little more burning in at the edges of frame.

Dannyh

Pastoral scene depicted in a split tone I think that suits it, but not sure why the focus in the narrow DOF is on the uninteresting fence post? A darker vignette would have suited it better.

Milamber

This is a whacky image to be sure, you had a great subject, pity the eyes are not in focus and the vignette is more a cut out. Not sure about your Corel SW but thanks for trying. Hope cat is less grumpy now.

"In photography, Definition: A vignette is a photograph whose edges fade out gradually to white or black. In photography, vignetting can be an unintentional result caused by optical limitations in the camera lens. As an effect, it is frequently used for portrait photos, usually in an oval or other shape. A vignette effect is easy to apply to a digital photo in most photo-editing programs." Wikipedia

Your subject matter is wide open, not just portraits a lot of documentary style images use the vignette.... all I ask is that it is in mono as my passion is mono and the vignette enhances the subject with effect. There are a lot of tutorials on-line to get the idea. It is a useful effect that really does focus the eye on the image created. So for those of you who have not yet tried mono or vignette there will be two challenges!

Anyone still wishing to enter should do so abiding by the usual rules. Although I have put a link to the rules, could I please clarify that all images should be taken during the period of the competition and not before.

All to be taken with Pentax or Samsung clone cameras.
The competition closes 18.00 GMT Wednesday 14 March.

Best of luck everybody!

Hmm, 'command shift +/=' should work, that's the same keystroke that enlarges text in Safari (the shortcut in Safari is ⌘+) [Windows users probably won't be able to see that symbol on the left of the plus sign]. It's odd that it's not working for you. Is there any chance that key combo is assigned to something else?

The other option would be to go to System Preferences/Keyboard/Keyboard Shortcuts and create a new keyboard shortcut for the right button in CS4. You could then change it to some combo which doesn't involve the shift button.
no not assigned to anything else Tim, the + and the = are on the same key and it seems impossible to separate them, now I wish I had a number pad!
will try the sys/pref as you suggest as let you know thank you ....
