Hi elbandido,
is there a good reason for not using flash, as it would make most of the problems you seem to be anticipating dissappear. Using the AF360 (or 540), means that you will be choosing the lighting parameters yourself. Agreed there may be some trial and error to start with, but if you have existing lights that can't be turned off, the the flash will even out the light, reducing glare.. that way you're in control.

Hi L66TTY, and welcome to the forums..

According to the error list..

https://www.pentaxuser.com/faq/pentaxerrorcodes.html

any A error is a problem with the main printed curcuit board, and needs to go back to Pentax to be fixed.

If it's still under waranty, and if it's the UK, that can be in effect up to 6 years, certainly two, then take it back to the shop and ask for it to be repaired for free. It's the shop's responsibility to sell you an item that's fit for the purpose it was intended for.

I'm sure someone will explain that better than I just did.

Cheers

Many thanks Mongoose and Dexter.
As a bit of a novice on this stuff could I ask please as to what would be the most compatible standard lens. I would be entirely happy with manual focus. I would like to have a fast standard lens; there seems to be a good few on Ebay but not too sure which would be the most suitable and easiest to use.
Thanks again.
As Gartmore says, if you can afford it, probably in the £80-£100 area, definitely go for the F series 1.7, or if you have more money (IIRC £150ish), apparently the f 1.4 is even better, although I haven't used one. I have an M f2, and although it is a good lens, the AF 1.7 is far easier to use and produces really good photos. Since getting it, the f2 hasn't been near the camera.

Hi Brian..

cheats never prosper an' all that..

Now you have to change the direction of all the shadows so that they fall into line with the sun.

Have a happy Saturday, with PS.

Hi Dan,

I'm looking at it back at home now, and I can see a slight blotchiness to it, but nothing compared to the TFT at work. In which case it could be just the compression to 72dpi that's doing it. I have seen some rather stripey sunset shots, where the tones of orange etc seem to emanate in a clearly defined rainbow fashion from the sun outwards; it's happened on mine occasionally. Again, I think this is just the reduction in size not leaving enough room for a nice gentle curve in tones/colours.

Hi Brian,

nice shot.

There's a similar, knarly old tree near me, and I wanted to get it with the snow the other day, but this being the South, it had melted off the branches by lunchtime..

I didn't see a problem at home this morning when viewing it on my CRT screen. but looking at it on the work's monitor, the sky does appear a bit blotchy. Dan, are you looking at it with a TFT monitor, because if so, then this is a problem with TFT screens. Especially Mono pictures. Perhaps they can reproduce colours better than tonal values????

Dunno.. where's Matt..

Both great shots Will,

I agree that the panoramic is the slightly better of the two.

I do like the fact though that there are a couple of people in the bottom left of the 645 picture that stayed still for the full 10 seconds.. especially with the wheel shut for the night. It freezes the moment, rather than looking like a long exposure.

Hi Tim,

I was trying to make it look like an old picture.. that's what I thought they looked like from memory....

Oh well, my venture into mono effects hasn't gone well then..

I'll go back to sunsets..
