More London shots 645nII

A couple more examples of my recent efforts on trips into London.

That panoramic one is simply stunning, nicer clouds than the 645 image and the lighter sky works better I think.

I agree that the panoramic is the slightly better of the two.

I do like the fact though that there are a couple of people in the bottom left of the 645 picture that stayed still for the full 10 seconds.. especially with the wheel shut for the night. It freezes the moment, rather than looking like a long exposure.

Reading my earlier post again, it seems as though I was infering the 645 one wasn't good - it is, I just think the panoramic's even better.

Dan - The 645 shot is slightly darker as I swapped cameras later on in the eve. I've a few examples of each (major bracketing without the luxury of digital) but my fave is that Pano as there's some light trails from a boat moving on the Thames, adds something a little different.

Tim - I had my caddy/girlfriend with me carrying a spare bag - they do come in handy sometimes!!! It does get a lot of kit at times and I've been trying to carry the K10D as well - been trying to find a bigger backpack on ebay. I hate getting places when the light is right and not having exactly the lens I want. If I leave something at home Murphy's Law always kicks in...

Just looked for one of the 'lighter' versons of the 645 shot - whilst the sky and detail in the Thames is better, this one at 20secs has the clock face on Big Ben burnt out...

The balance between the sky and the artificial lights was just right with the 617, as you say there are bits burnt out with the longer exposure on the lighter 645 image. And you've still got those heavier clouds coming in...

You're dead right about the balance - I do quite a bit of this type of shooting at dusk and at this time of year the time when you have the balance between sky and artificial lighting just right is quite short, probably only a matter of 15-25 mins. Some of the other dusk shots on my site were taken in July when I've almost missed the last tube back to my car as the light's been 'right' for much longer.

I've just been looking through your PBase galleries and came across "Fuji GX617 ebay sale" - does this mean we're not going to be treated to any more of your panoramics, or did you have two of the things??

Should go towards one of the new 'star' lenses.

Long story Dan...

Found a chap on ebay last autumn that was selling a GX617, 90mm Lens and the very hard to find 300mm lens. I've got the other 3 lenses for the GX and had been looking for the 300mm for nearly 3 years - the only time I've ever seen another 300mm was as part of a whole 4 lens system that sold for well over £6K . Asked if he'd split the listing and offered plenty to secure just the 300mm lens... He refused but I decided to bid on the whole lot and would split it if I won - which I did. So yes for a few months I've had two of the things...

I sold 'the spare' Sunday evening and at that stage I was/am very happy as the 300mm lens has effectively ended up costing me no where near as much as I'd expected or more like feared!!! GX617 LBA is far worse than Pentax...

The only downer at the moment is that it sold to a chap in Germany who hasn't been in touch yet to pay Sent him 2 invoices and a message chasing but I'm starting to fear the worse as he's got 5 neg feedbacks showing in the last 12 months. My limited A-Level German tells me that those negs are for exactly this - no contact, no payment

I'd very much like to get in touch with the chap in second place who'd e-mailed me a couple of times while the listing was live so I'm a little more assured of his genuine-ness (sp?) but guess I'll have to wait another couple of days as my own T's & C's with these things is 5 days for payment.

Anyway - the pano images aren't going away
It might not be a Pentax but if you chaps don't mind a Pentax fan posting 'foreign' images I'll keep sharing...
