To John Riley A good place to get pentax microfibre cloths if you say pretty please is Specsavers as they use pentax lenses as standard and give away free cloths when you get new specs. If you get your specs there they will normally give you a couple or so spares if you ask nicely. CHEERS Vic

Hi.
Good first go.
Did you notice that the top of the coin in the secong shot isn't in focus?
Depth of Field in Macro is virtually 0. Try the coin again with it perfectly perpendicular to your lens.
Another way to get SOME DOF, is a smaller aperture - this requires as much light as you can throw on the subject.
Macro work is fun - and hot.
Cheers
Still not sure what all the dials mean on the camera. I'm still reading the manual and trying to understand all the different photographic terms and how to apply them.
I did notice the out of focus bit, but couldn't get a proper overhead using the tripod.
I have so much to learn.
Light is a problem for me indoors but I have a few ideas to get around that without using a flash although I do have a Pentax AF-360FGZ TTL Flashgun which again I need to read up on how to use it.
First time I've used my new camera and first time the new lens has been attached.
I'm kindof pleased at first glance at the quality of the lens and I am sure I will be very pleased over the next few weeks/months as I get more familiar with the new equipment.

This is my very first attempt using my new Sigma 70mm f2.8 on my new K10D.
Just trying it out on a pound coin.
No flash and basic settings.

I love the spider and the way the water is captured on the web.
Thanks

Steve
I feel you have got off on the wrong foot here, this is in fact a friendly and informative forum, as you will find out in time.
A little confusion has reigned with this current thread and led to the situation you now find yourself in. This has led to a few tongue in cheek replies which has rubbed you up the wrong way.
Maybe as a newbie with no experience of the semi-professional K10D camera and knowing next to nothing about aperature, shutter speed, iso etc... I felt that I might of been handled with cottonwool gloves and gently introduced to this forum.
I felt that only £39.99 for a new lens was a fantastic price and people would snap my hand off on EBay but they didn't and now I know differently. For anyone to say that the price is "expensive" is just a stupid comment, clearly SRS had a job lot from Pentax hence their very inexpensive price (I still can't believe the price is so low and delivered free to forum members, fantastic).
You mean stuff like the Pentax SMC 50-200mm sold on the 27th March? That would have nicely filled the gap between your 18-55 and 70-300 that you were concerned about filling.
I have already described my disabilty earlier but what I did not say is that I am in constant pain and frustrated because I can not do things that previously was taken for granted. Things like running, I am unable to run. Things like lifting, sometimes even lifting a cup of tea caused extra pain. Walking is always painful.
Besides the pain and frustration I have recently found out that my blood pressure has gone high and maybe that is the reason for me being out of character (slightly short tempered) in my responses earlier for which I apologise. I am usually very mild tempered, understanding and very considerate of others. I am now on other medication to normalise my blood pressure. The doctor says it has gone up due to my age and family history (my father, uncle and grandparents all died from heart problems and all under retirement age), at just 49 years old I still consider myself as being young, it's just a shame that my body doesn't agree.
I now know what to expect in reply to my questions/statements and I am better prepared for the knd of answers that I might get and will not take those answers/criticism as seriously as I have previously done.
Thanks

It is unusual for someone very new to the forum to be selling three identical lenses, claiming them to be cheap, when in fact they are expensive.
£174 (Pixmania) is expensive (IMO), even my local store is selling at £129 (special price), because you have found somewhere less expensive does not mean that my price is expensive, Both are excellent value for money. Two months ago people would of snapped my hand off at my price.
It is also unusual for someone very new to the forum to suggest that they are new to photography, and have very few lenses, when they're clearly experienced in buying and selling Pentax gear.
I have sold 'Pentax' and 'Canon' gear but it does not make me an expert on photography. In my early days in sales I sold food (frozen, tinned, packets etc..) it does not make me an expert chef.
I now own a Pentax K10D and I know hardly anything about the camera. Previously I owned a Pentax *ist DL (12 months or so) and basically used it as a point-and-shoot. Previous to that it was always a small compact camera.
I want to learn and joining this 'Pentax' forum I thought I could get answers and tips and as I gain more experience I inturn can repay the favour.
Clearly there are members here who know-it-all and I suspect they actually know far less than they make out.
I am not a scammer, in fact I have never been in trouble with the law, I always try to be helpful and I always try to be as honest as possible.
My only question was "New member need lens advice, please" and asked:
My question is:-
Which lens would you recommend for a very keen newbie?
I like taking scenery and wildlife shots and also like macro work.
I also intend to go on a part-time college 'photographic' course in the Autumn.
I do appreciate the sound advise given by others.
If I am a scammer then why would I give my EBay ID link?
If I am a scammer then why do I have 100% feedback as a seller with excellent feedback comments?
If I was a scammer then why sell something for as little as £39.99 and only 3 of them?
If I was a scammer then why only offer 'Paypal' as means of payment?
Now I'm getting suspicious !!
Maybe this isn't a friendly forum or a place to make new friends.

I thought having 3 lenses in my bag would be a good start. (I have two)
Assuming you manage to sell everything that you have on ebay - 5 lenses, the Sigma AML and the Pentax 50150 crossover bag - by my reckoning, you will end up with only 1 lens and no bag to put it in!
I'm therefore having difficulty getting my head round what you are now thinking.
Have I asked another question besides "what 3rd lens I should have in my bag?
I have a large family, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, nephews, neices and my mother plus quite a few good friends.
I had a new Sigma APO Macro DC lens bought me and the bag mentioned above for my Birthday because of my new hobby and enthusiasm for my new hobby. The bag is therefore surplus to requirements as is my existing Sigma lens. All of which are helping to fund my other new Sigma 70mm f/2.8 macro which I bought.
I now have 3 lenses, Pentax 18-55mm standard lens, Sigma 70mm macro lens and the Sigma 70-300mm lens. Which all fit into my Tamrac bag quite nicely with room to spare for my filters, flash, spare batteries etc...
I hope that the people who bought your present did not buy them at Pixiemania...
Plus all the other camera gear you have sold (or not) in the last month.
That's a lot of good (uninformed) friends you have there....
Most of the stuff upto February this year is computer related, like graphics cards, motherboards, cpu, memory etc....

God! this is a clicky forum. I thought by joining this forum I would get some solid help and advise, with the few exceptions I am getting criticised by members who don't even know me.
10 years ago at the age of 39 I was diagnosed with a spinal condition which rendered me disabled and unable to work full-time.
Before this I was very active and employed as an Area Sales Manager for a national company. Great job, great salary, good lifestyle and then nothing. I had to give up my then pastimes/hobbies like gardening, fishing and even playing darts at my local. I couldn't even play football with my sons who were 7 years and 9 years at the time.
A divorce quickly followed.
I had a major operation in 1999 which did not correct my disability, although it did help relieve some of the pain. Further consultations at Birmingham Royal Orthapaedic, Bristol Frenchay and Oswestry hospitals means that further surgery will not be considered due to the risk factor, so I am now registered disabled with a condition which is progressively getting worse.
I was already into computers and became more involved in computers by fixing, upgrading and building computers for my friends and family now that I had more time on my hands.
Now I have found a new hobby/pastime in photography, something artistic and creative. Something which I have been interested in for years but done nothing about it.
As with everything I do, I like to do it properly, I like doing it well and I like being well equipped. I enjoy and encourage structured criticism as it helps in learning and improving oneself. I always like to give credit where credit is due.
Where I was earning £500+ a week 10 years ago I now get less than £500 a month in 2008. 3 weeks holiday abroad a year is now a week in a caravan in West Wales, if I'm lucky.
So EBay is a good outlet for me to get extra cash, even if it is only £5.
I have had to sell all my fishing equipment to fund other purchases and so on because money is so tight.
I don't like selling Birthday or Christmas presents but they are no good to me sat in a cupboard. Why do I need four 18-55mm lenses or two camera bags? If I can get £200 then it can go towards the 70mm lens that I do want (have already bought).
Hopefully a few of you will now have a better understanding of me and know me a little better before you criticise. If not then send me a PM and I will get back to you.
Need any help/advise on computers then please ask and again I'll get back to you.
Want any gardening tips? Just ask.

Thanks and sorry to bore you all again

Are you aware that they're available new for £29 at SRS, which is very highly thought-of here?
Thanks for the heads-up anyway, not heard of SRS (I have now).
I am new and have now added SRS to my favourites folder.
Maybe that is where these 3 lenses have come from - £15 profit on each lens if my maths is correct.
The other two were bought for my Birthday a few weeks ago.
If my maths is correct - that's a loss and not a profit.
I would not dream of profiteering from other forum members (if my reading between the lines is correct)
How do I got about getting free delivery with SRS? Thanks
Good luck with the listings, but if it was me and I wanted the money quick then I'd ship them worldwide.
