Daniel Bridge recently tried out the K-1 and found it wouldn't even track a couple as they walked towards him down the aisle!

The AF area on the centre point is rather large and will often lock onto the back/front of the head rather than the eye or the body rather than the head.
In this video (about 4 mins in) Gary Fong explains how Sony handle this using eye-focus. It was one of the reasons he switched to using them professionally.

Pentax need to add something like that.

Still strange though that there doesn't seem to be any published reviews of the lens anywhere.
dpreview has some sample images taken with it.

Would the 300mm with the Pentax HD DA AF 1.4x AW Rear Converter be a vable option in this discussion? It would give you a 420mm focal length and still be significantly lighter than the 150-450mm.

P.S. OK. I missed that it was mentioned earlier.

I found finding the plane as a speck at the short end of the zoom and then zooming in on it a lot easier than searching the sky at long range.
An alternative approach that I found worked at my first airshow is to keep both eyes open, not just the one looking throught the viewfinder. The other eye (usually the left one), gives you the position of the plane(s) in the sky whilst the other one sorts zoom and focus.

So if the K70 rumour is correct, is this a successor to the K50?
If so, where does the K-S2 fit into the product line-up?

DP Review have just published a test of the K-1's dynamic range and say that it is one of the best ever. The article's heading says that it is getting close to the dynamic range available from medium fomat cameras. The pixel-shift feature is a major contributor to this result.

This got me thinking. Pixel-shifting is effective primarily when the camera is on a tripod. Being somewhat heavier, 645Zs are likely to be used on tripod for a greater proportion of their time, so I reckon we will see the pixel-shift feature appear on that in its next upgrade, offering an even better degree of dynamic range.

I suspect that they are trying to get it out in time for the bank holiday weekend.

Hi Carl,
some suggestions beyond those mentioned:-

1) Ynys Hir Nature reserve, used for the BBC's Springwatxch series a year or two ago, is on the south side of one of the estuaries. Sorry, I forget which.
2) Very near to that (~2 miles) is a swan or otter sanctuary.
3) A little further away (north) is a children's experiance park (underground) . Something to do with King Arthur.
4) Between Corris and Machynlleth Is the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) which has stuff for the whole family.
5) Walks and photography opportunities on Cadair Idris (esp. around Llyn Cau).
6) Bala and Llyn Tegid are not far away
7) Portmeirion.
Open slate mine in Blaunau Ffestiniog.
9) Waterfalls and mountyain biking tracks in Coed Y Brenin south of Trawsfynydd.
10) The Torrent Walk just east of Dolgellau.

Apparentlly uncooked rice is good at drying out mobile phones that have fallen into water so, after washng the mud off, you could bury the camera and lens in rice for a day or so.

Not too expensive.
