You could also consider the Pentax DA 15mm F4 Limited which is light and compact. Browsing throuh camera offers & reviews (as you do) i came across a review on Amazon that said that a drawback of the K3iii compared to the K3ii is that there is no coloured focus confirmation in the viewfinder.

Is this correct, or could it be that someone had switched it off in one of the options?
I find focus confirmation a very useful feature. (I recall that the K500 was criticised for having it removed as a way of making a cheaper model from the K50.)

Belated thanks to all who have offered suggestions.
It is still not sorted, although I did miss an opportunity to buy a thick elastic band recently as LennyBloke suggested. I have tried leaving it in the sun for a morning in case it was due to the temperature scenario, but with no luck. I am considering trying again using a hot air drier.

Thanks Chris. Unfortunately the wheel is still too stiff to turn by hand. Whilst I have a large wrench that could add some extra leverage, I am loth to do so until all possible options that avoid damage have been tried. With the camera in your hands to use it as normal, I.e grip downwards and the lens facing away from you, it's clockwise ro undo the grip.
Any further ideas anyone?
Is there something causing this that I might have done accidentally when I put it on?

I have a KP to which I recently attached a (genuine) battery grip. Unfortunately it is proving difficult to remove. The grip has been fitted once before when I bought it, and I don't recall it being difficult to remove then.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?
Please can someone confirm which way the screw wheel should turn to undo? I have assumed it should be turned anti-clockwise when viewed from the underside (i.e looking at the female tripod attachment screw thread), but I don't want to force it.

The father of a friend worked in the power station, so I showed him the pics.. Here is his response (included with permission) which I thought would be of interest to forum members:-
"These photos are interesting. I did actually work in the labs there from after A levels until going to Uni..
The first set look like the A station. As I recall it houses 6 x 100 Mw turbines. 2 Oil fired and 4 coal. Even then 1979, the two oil fired ones were never really used because the coal was so much cheaper. It was an impressive place though. A lot of it was painted by colour code e.g. steam pipes red, feed water blue etc. which was really useful when I was sent out to get water samples etc. at least stopping me from burning myself!
The second set look more like what was then the newer B station. This had 3 500Mw turbines. The danger sign does ring a bell with me as I spent a couple of weeks working in the lab below one of the boilers there. This was ‘bomb’ proofed with walls of concrete a couple of feet thick because one of the boilers did blow up a couple of years before I was there! The lab was only used if there was an issue in the B station.
Also, I did a few days working on the ammonia tank using some sort of radar type ‘gun’ to check the thickness of the inside walls of the tank. There was a bit more scaffolding around it then.
Very interesting. It brought back memories of a great little job I had there. Very varied. "

Why is red a fast colour?
I'm not sure why (or whether) there is a general association of the colour red with speed (or perceived speed), but I do know why red is associated with Ferraris.
In the early 20th century (pre-dating Formula 1 by some time), an intenational racing competition was set up in which various manufacturers represented their own countries in the tournament. The cars of each country had a specific colour:-
- Italian cars (mainly Maserati, Alfa Romeo, & Ferrari) were red,
- French cars (mainly Bugatti) were light blue,
- American cars were white, and
- British cars (e.g. Bentley) were green.
Hence the colour 'British Racing Green'. This colour was also used in the 1950s & 1960s by the succesful Vanwall and Jaguar racing teams, and has been been a popular colour for British made, sporty road cars for some time, e.g. MG, Triumph, & Jaguar.
I read separately** that British speed cops used to play 'snooker' with each other, i.e. stop a red car, then a blue car, a red car, a green car, a red car, a black car ... etc., with the cops gaining the associated snooker points scores. Of course this may well be be an urban legend, but if not, it could explain why there are stats. showing that red cars are more likely to speed, and (possbly by inference) why red cars attract higher insurance premiums.
(** This was at least a couple of decades ago so, even if was true then, things may be different now.)
