The Pentax Grip is better in pretty much all areas but the DSTE is not too far behind, rubber thumb wheels would make a lot of difference here, The Pentax, costs a bomb and not worth it IMHO unless your'e getting free as part of a deal, Had my DSTE for a few months now with zero problems...

It seems we have truly reached a plateau if there is no need to upgrade the sensor after a couple of years. I have been procrastinating for ages seeing what else would become available in the quality zoom compact world but also in the hope that there would be an equivalent 35mm fl version of the GR. I shall procrastinate no more - the GR it is as it simply blows away the image quality of the likes of the much vaunted Sony RX100s. However, I have been no reason at all to invest in the latest model and I suspect the same will be true for most. It will have to come down in price much closer to the old model. That's the problem all round the camera business at the moment - no real innovation to escape the plateau. It doesn't mean it isn't a great camera, it is, but persuading people to upgrade is becoming very difficult,
Couldn't agree more Adrian!
Same is currently going for me with the K3 II, a very dissapointing upgrade from my point of veiw, more of a side grade if such a thing is possible, the new GR even more so, I may pick up a K3 prestige and a ltd edition GR later this year and eschew the newbies!
K-S2 is adorable though...

Not sure how much of an upgrade it is but maybe current GR owners could chime in here?

Videos on the KS2 from David Hancock, plus a lot of other stuff Pentax related, very thorough overview, his voice is a little dull but if you have the KS2 sit back with a bucket of popcorn...
Theres a few hours of it!

Yes indeed, important to keep your eyes open if you're thinking of a specific lens. I got the HD20-40 Limited from SRS for £499, when it dipped from £659, which is where it's gone back now. Brilliant lens, absolute bargain.
Me too, and I concur with you on the lenses performance, best of the Pentax "Standard" zooms by a margin, the 16-85 being next. The Ltd zoom is a joy to use just like the other limiteds in the line, not an all in one zoom by any stretch but it perfoms and handles beautifully and my lightweight landscape kit just got even better (15/20-40/70), I've never been happy with any of the other Pentax DA standard zooms whether they be * or not, they all have their issues...
Have you been able to compare the DA* 16-50 vs DA 20-40 ... It seems the much maligned 16-50 does perform very well when stopped down, but it is big and then of course there's the SDM concerns.
Indded the DA*16-50 does not do a bad job at all, when you stop it down a bit but wide open it's just plain soft in comparison to just about every other manufacturers standard "Pro" spec, zoom I've ever used. I've had three and probably will end up with another one when everyone starts dumping them in the rush to buy the magical Unicorn which will soon appear as the planets are now in exact alignment...
In comparison to every other standard fast zoom I have ever tried the 16-50mm's ace in the hole is it's compact size and overall handling, if you can live with the optical compromises (Some call this character, like when they call a prime a specialist portrait prime because the edges are crap wide open :lol, then it's a great lens and with the 50-135 or the 60-250, you've got a super set up.
I sold my third but as I say probably not final 16-50 within a fortnight of recieving my 20-40mm Ltd zoom, why? Because in comparable focal lengths the limited is just better everywhere, I see you have some of the Limited lenses too, it has the certain "je ne sais quoi" of the Limited primes and has the same joy of handling that only they can bring, if you appreciate that sort of thing, then you'd love this little zoom. Since you already have the 15mm, I'd say it was a No-Brainer...
