Just got off the Phone with SRS, they are going to arrange pickup and replacement of my K5 on Friday,(Replacement time is stock dependant) Bravo! Can I just say, this is brilliant Customer Service and Can I also say that it's nice that whether done directly or indirectly a Company like Pentax can hold their hands up quickly and get the issue dealt with.
Kinda makes me want to stick around long term...

Tamron 90 received with thanks Jules! I must say it feels very well made. As you say the 2 step MF>AF switching is a bit of a drag, but hopefully the focus limiter will be a benefit. Hope it's as sharp as your DFA
Certainly is, you'll have no troubles there!
I think you'll get used to it, it only narked me because it's different to every other Lens I have, the build quality is very high indeed and it's quite a substantial Lens
Enjoy...

K5 Suffring from the "Staining on Sensor" issue just to left of centre a small line of what appears to be smear of gease or adhesive? Also a small very well defined blotch below this, they are not dust bunnies as the staining does not appear to be on top of the AA Fllter but below it.
I have not been able to remove it by cleaning, and therefore it is unremovable save for servicing...
Could you tell me if this would be under guarantee and how long the
turnaround will be as I am starting to rely on it for business use...
Cheers Jules...

I had a far better response from SRS
But I sure am glad I kept my K7 as well

Do you mean this kind of thing for the Sony Nex?

I've got a NEX3 with the 2 kit lenses and have been really pleased with the results. I'm looking forward to trying the A lenses I've got coming on it, you need a lens with aperture ring and the camera will meter in Av and M as far as I'm aware
Yeah that type of thing but I was wondering if such a thing might have become available from the likes of Samsung during their collaboration with Penatx/Hoya?
There seem to be Adaptors for Panny to just about everything, Olympus I can't find nearly as much for, just wondering if anyone has tried it and was the result satisfactory?
Would love an EVIL Body to use my Ltd Lenses on, Manual focus would be fine, I would like it to be a "chipped" adaptor for metering etc however...

The Voigtlanders did have a devoted following in K-mount, but they were very much a niche product. Plus they weren't all that cheaper than the DA Limiteds and FA50. A niche product on what is already a fairly niche lens mount equals very few sales.
That kinda puts it in a nutshell!
If Pentax grows nearly as much as Hoya seems to think it will Tamron/Cosina will be back, at the moment though all hail the mighty "SIGMA"
What I can never quite get my head around is Hoya's attitude to what is after all their own Brand???

Too late for me I own it! Recently got myself a degree in Computer Science as well so I'll no doubt find a way round it, trouble is DXO is very very good...
It Ain't broke so I won't try and fix it...

No not a thread about a Pentax one but Pentax Related, does anyone have any knowledge of the EVIL Camera's using a Panny/Olympus/Samsung/Sony to Pentax Lens adapter?
Which ones work best and why?
What features from the chosen Camera are lost by using the adapter (Autofocus is the usual one I believe)
I love the idea of my 21mm on an EVIL but need to research the ins and outs of the possibilities here...
Cheers in advance for any info given...

Hi Jules, It's not known exactly how the protection works and if it does involve a rootkit it may not be apparent, that's the whole idea behind it. It took a genius Mark Russinovich, (an intrepid computer security researcher as the BBC described him) to notice that Sony were installing a rootkit from some Audio CD's. That resulted in several court cases with Sony paying out something like $175 for each damaged PC and being fined about $5.7M in the USA. link

More on the Sony fiasco link

You can't be too careful

I like DXO but wouldn't use it because of the danger.

Edit: Just noticed this summary on that link I gave:
"Installations of secret software that create security risks are intrusive and unlawful," FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras said in a statement. "Consumers' computers belong to them, and companies must adequately disclose unexpected limitations on the customary use of their products so consumers can make informed decisions regarding whether to purchase and install that content."
Cheers Algi,
