Blimey, my lens has lost 5mm! Perhaps I should take it back to the shop - I'm sure it was an 18-55 when I bought it!!

I have the Sigma 18-55mm f/2.8 - Sigma quote a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3, and a minimum focusing distance of 20cm. The magnification ratio sounds about right, but it'll focus closer than 20cm - there have been occasions when I've had to remove the lens hood in order to focus at the closest focusing distance.

Thanks for the replies - yes, it does look as if they may have mistaken the HDR filter for EDR. I know there are a couple of other minor errors in that review, but the 100% image of Sidmouth is very impressive in the amount of detail captured (as has been mentioned previously).

I've just been looking at the review of the K20D at trustedreviews.com, and was interested to see the comparison pictures with and without Expanded Dynamic Range. See:

www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2008/04/18/Pentax-K20D-digital-SLR...

The two pictures seem to have been taken from the same file, leading me to think that the EDR feature is something that can be activated post-capture - does anyone know if this is correct? That's not the way I thought it worked, but if this isn't the case then the reviewer is perhaps being a bit misleading?

Best wishes from me too, & hopes for agreeable weather (whatever your exact style of agreeable weather may be...)

Regarding the convergence of capable stills & video in a single unit, this is likely, for the time being at least, to remain technology that is only implemented at a consumer level. When Canon introduced the 1D MkIII they had to run it past the Olympic Association (& no doubt FIFA as well) in order to assuage concerns that photographers inside sporting venues might undermine lucrative TV rights. For this reason I can't imagine high quality video being a feature that's seen on pro-spec SLRs for a while.

Another vote of thanks to Lilly, and congratulations to Dr Mhuni - a great picture that fully deserved to win!

No shop keeper I'm afraid, but this was taken at my nearest food shop (about 30 seconds from my front door). I can heartily recommend their rabbit, bacon, white bean & mustard pie, which I had for lunch yesterday.

Galoot and John-

I'm particularly partial to cat pictures at the moment, my cat have finally expired last month after many years of good and faithful service (including quite a lot of sleeping...) He was never much one for catching mice though - I think he thought that was all a bit below him (or too much effort). I saw him encounter a hedgehog once but he didn't really know what to make of it. And a fox, when he certainly did know what to do - I'd never seen him move so fast in my life (back through the catflap!)

I'm particularly enjoying the competition entries so far - the subject has seemed to inspire more intimate and less typically "photographic" pictures than usual, which I find fascinating.
