I have been following this thread (and this one: https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/equipment-care-12427 )
with twofold interest. I have (a) recently moved into a flat in the UK that is not the best in terms of damp/mildew etc, and (b) hope to be visiting Sri Lanka in the next few months.

The advice for lens storage I've had so far has been split between airtight containers with silica gel, or kept somewhere with as much air circulating as possible; but I imagine that's there's not necessarily one solution for every climatic situation...

My girlfriend is currently working in the north east of Sri Lanka, which is apparently not quite as humid as Colombo. She has been using an Olympus digital compact, but that has started behaving oddly after having been out there three months.

I'm thinking of taking film cameras with me when I go, rather than anything digital, so I don't have to worry so much about the bodies (film cameras being generally easier to clean or service). But, then again, I'll only be there for a short time.

All the best with your move, Dr. Mhuni.

I have never used the Live View on my K20D and, like a few others here, can't really imagine using the video function of a K-7 in anger. However, I read a review of the D90 a while ago where someone pointed out the usefulness of video as a kind of memo function (in order to record complicated lighting set-ups).

I can also see it being useful when scouting a location for a wedding or portrait shoot.

Thanks a lot Piotro, that makes it really clear - I was probably being overcautious, but I thought I'd better check!

Thanks again,

Have just been revisiting this thread & am just attempting my first firmware update.

I have a couple of quick questions (which I think stem from my lack of understanding of computer terminology...)

1) The text file says to copy the .bin file to the root directory of the SD card - what is the root directory of the card?

2) If this basically means copy the to the card does this mean just the .bin file, or is it ok to download the whole lot (.txt & .bin) straight to the SD card?

Sorry if these are silly questions, but I thought I'd better be sure the first time I do it!

Thanks, Jonathan

I've never submitted work to a photo library, but from reading about this side of the industry the rule of thumb that's often quoted is that regular contributors to libraries earn approximately one pound per image per year. And this is based on contributors with a decent, well keyworded back catalogue.

And libraries usually advise you to add new images regularly, so keep on shooting!

I'd also be interested to hear the experiences of anyone that's had a go at submitting a good quantity of images to any of the libraries, in regards to percentage of submissions accepted, frequency of return etc.

I don't know if anyone's familiar with Damien Lovegrove's work (if you're interested in wedding & portrait work then it's well worth a look), but he's got a couple of images on his blog taken on a K200D he's reviewed.

Look out for the great 10-17mm picture. See this post: http://www.prophotonut.com/2009/03/23/cherish-the-dress%e2%84%a2-pictures-part-2/

For the full review of the camera see:

I have a K2 still going strong & in lovely condition - it's a fabulous camera. I've never seen a K2 DMD in the flesh.

The KX does have the one advantage of fully mechanical operation, whereas the K2 needs a battery in order to utilise its full range of shutter speeds.

If you shoot in RAW then you shouldn't have so much of a problem, depending on which RAW converter you use. Silkypix automatically eliminates dead pixels, as do some (but not all) other RAW converters.

If you don't shoot RAW then this is a good reason to do so - it's worth at the very least downloading the free version of Silkypix to give it a go.

It may have been a weird show but it produced some great images.
Agreed! A great set of pictures - what ISO were you using?

I had a Canon rep (and 5D user) demonstrating the Pro 9500 printer last year - he commented on the detail in one of my pictures when making an A3+ print, & asked what camera it was taken on. He didn't really know what to say when I told him it was from a 6MP Pentax!
