It's not first-hand info so certainly to be taken with a large grain of salt.

If it's true, it's good news, as now is not the time for a Pentax FF camera. Now is the time to expand and re-vamp the lens line-up for APS-C cameras.

* Both Canon & Nikon have 50mm 1.8's for less than £80. Pentax has a 50mm 1.8 for over £200.

1. 31mm f/1.8, but it's considerably more expensive
2. I agree that the cheap Pentax 35mm should be at least f/2
3. I agree the cheap Pentax 50mm is over-priced, it makes me very glad I have the FA version. Having said that, the Canon 50/1.8 has the most horrendous build quality of any lens ever made, I wouldn't buy it even if it cost a tenner.
4. Canikon users envy our small, light, beautifully-build ltd lenses, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Bear in mind that the lens line-ups of Canikon are geared towards full-frame and that leaves the vast majority of their customers, the APS-C users, without lenses designed for their cameras. The biggest benefit that the Pentax line has is that there is no FF, therefore lenses are designed for APS-C.

Overall, Pentax glass is lacking in sheer speed. However, if a fast lens doesn't perform at wider apertures (this is true of most fast glass) then it's pointless to have those aperture settings as they dramatically increase size, weight and cost.

I think Pentax needs to increase the DA* line to include more fast primes. I wouldn't mind new limited lenses and new versions of some of the existing ones too.

I love using old lenses, including M42 ones. You've made a start with manual lenses so you could always try a few more of the k-mount ones first.

However, for accurate focusing you will always need either live view or a special focusing screen (I have the latter).

I think that CCD sensors weren't fast enough to handle video, while CMOS was, so everyone moved to CMOS. I couldn't care less about video and certainly wouldn't be happy at accepting a lower-IQ sensor just to accommodate it.

I still have my K200D as my only DSLR and have no plans at all to get a newer model. The low-ISO image quality is wonderful, the camera is solid and well-designed, and it provides me with just about everything I want in digital photography.

Bump. This is still available - any offers?

It's a decent lens. I take mine on holiday to have a long lens for occasional use as it's a lot smaller and lighter than my 55-300, plus 35mm-compatible as I tend to pack a film SLR these days too.

I have the 35/2 and it's lovely. My Viv 28/2 is nice too, but lacks something...

I hope the buyers makes good use of this and posts some pics taken with it.

if I may offer a voice of hope, since I was last active on the forum a few years ago I have changed jobs. I now work for a fairly small company of software engineers and consultants, the majority of whom are educated to Masters level or above in Science based subjects.

There are more Pentax shooters here than I've ever encountered in one place before! At least three in one small office.
As you say, educated people.
