This is a HUGE topic which will yield many different opinions and will require many, many hours to do, so beware.

I use an Epson V500 and the included software to scan. I've never been happy with the results, they're very poor indeed in terms of sharpness and colours. Scanning is by far the most complex, difficult and frustrating part of a modern film/digital workflow.

There are better scanners available but they are much more expensive and generally even slower than the Epson flatbeds, so it all depends on how much time, effort and money you want to put into the endeavour.

If you can afford it then send all the scans to a reputable company to scan for you.

Though I sympathise, I think this is totally unrealistic. Unless it's to correct a blatant fault, no camera company will invest in new firmware for such an old camera.

I think you'll need to hunt down an old broken copy and use the one from that.

I like these old camera adverts. They're very interesting and make me want to grab one of my old film cameras and go and shoot.

I saw this the other day and wondered if they'd brought it back to go with the new FF but I can't see many people spending the big bucks on a FF and then skimping on a lens like this.

I understand they should all fit. Maybe you need to remove the hoods from the 21, 40 & 70?

I have had the Tamron for a few years and it's a superb lens, very sharp even wide open and fantastic colour, contrast and saturation.

I have only shot one gig and I used this lens mainly and had no problem at f/2.8 using my K3. Check out the album below. A few of those were shot with an A 50/1.7 but most were with the Tamron (check the tags).

I tend to use this lens for weddings and parties too (just as a guest though) as it's a great all-round option.

Sigma also make a 17-50/2.8 which I understand is very good too. Watch out for the older Sigma 18-50/2.8 which is poor wide open.

Anything beyond 300mm is specialist glass and therefore either expensive or poor quality. Cheap and good quality just don't go together at those focal lengths.

A bit late now but I wish you luck. I've only shot bands in dark venues with my K3 and I remember thinking that my previous DSLR, a K200D (same sensor as the K10D) would never have managed it either in terms of ISO or AF. I remember I was at ISO 1600-3200 (sometimes more) and f/2.8 to get decent shutter speeds.

A K10D and slow zooms doesn't sound like a recipe for success in that environment. I'd stick with the fast fifty and focus bracket and use the 18-55 at maximum aperture for wide shots.
