I'd prefer to be able to do it with my eye still at the viewfinder, it's probably possible but not to intuitive using the info button and menu.

Might be fun to tabulate these results to find out just which are the top ranking lenses (the Sigma 10-20 looks like a strong contender for #1).
The Tamron 90mm Macro looks like another strong contender in it's various guises. Anyone got too much time on their hands:

There's a surprising number of Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6's getting used and it's good to see the FA 135/2.8 appearing, I never knew there were that many out there.

Using a DA300/Pentax 1.7x combination on the K5 I have to "Input Focal length". So does the SR not just use what you input?
It's not possible as all Teleplus TC's just throughput the lens data and "Input Focal Length" is greyed out in the menu. The Pentax 1.7x must be unique, it was designed for older manual lenses.

Hi Stefan,

I was referring to a multiplier for the focal length, if SR thinks you're using a 300mm lens when in actual fact you're using a 420mm, 450mm or 510mm lens it can hardly be optimal.

Either that or give us a 400mm f/5.6 SDM or better, or produce the SDM 1.4x TC that was rumoured and have that set SR to 420mm and while they're at it have it display the correct aperture value in the VF.

And wouldn't it be great to have an external antishake on/off switch?
I knew I could find another reason not to upgrade yet and just found it

I'd like a firmware update to manually override SR settings so I could set in a multiplier for SR, 4 options in the menu 1.4x, 1.5x, 1.7x and 2x. That should cover all TC's in use and optimise SR for the focal length actually in use

John
Why not just the option that shuts the SR off if the speed is fast enough?
Because it would be nice to have it working correctly when the speed is not fast enough. That's the whole point of SR, or am I missing something

Had my K20D 3 plus years 8000 actuations never serviced, It's had a Rocket Blower used on it a couple of times and the focusing screen out for a clean after I got a creature in it shooting wildlife in Wales.
Also have a K10D and istD never serviced. My old Pentax MX is still going strong after 32 years but could do with the seals replacing, I doubt the K20D will last 32 years

They are also quite big & heavy which is why the DA50 F1.7 gets on my list

I feel your pain, if I'm reducing the strain it's the Sigma AF 24/2.8, FA 28/2.8 or FA 35/2 as the default.

Having the DA*16-50 as the default lens on my main body dates back to when I had an early version with very poor SDM performance. I was so fed up with it that I knew if I left it off for any length of time it would never be used again. Glyn
I tend to have the DA*16-50 or DA 17-70 on the front of the camera as it's the most convenient way to carry it with a bag of diminutive primes hence they get used quite a bit when I'm being lazy
They're damned expensive body caps though
