Thank you for your comments, these were fun to take and mess with, although in hindsight I should have shot Raw and not just Jpeg.

These are superb!!

I think they could have even more impact with some post processing, but the foundations are there and that's the important bit.

Excellent!!!
I would like to have given some of these more impact, but my biggest problem is my own lack of PP ability. Any tips or thoughts on ways to improve any of these shots.

All the best..Jim.

Some images taken in Gloucester Cathedral. Gloucester Choral Society and Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra were practising at the time.

In the first image I am sure most would say the eyes should be in sharp focus, although when I photograph my granddaughter and am off with the focus, no other member of my family are bothered or even notice, and when I point this out they still don't care.
The treatment on the second version masks the eye focus thing and gives the image a look I am sure any Goth at Whitby would be happy with, white face dark eyes, but I don't like the blown out effect on the hair.
The young lady doesn't appear to be a Goth, so I wonder how she feels about the second image.

I enjoy looking at your pics QC but I must admit I find the "human" part of the project title a bit misleading unless the vast majority of "humans" in your neck of the woods are all young adults / students preferably with fashionable hair and piercings. Don't get me wrong I can see why you would be drawn to photograph these photogenic and interesting characters, but maybe the title should reflect your very obvious selection of subjects.
Let's see some middle aged ugly obese unfashionable / ordinary humans, or be honest with yourself and change the title of your project. We all like to look at good looking people I am sure, but an accurate representation of humans anywhere? I don't think so.

Wow you really can tell a lot from a picture

Ralph, this new version much better and the banding? has gone but this has now put the kibosh on the resizing theory. Does look like your Perspex needs dusting, easily done in PP or with Mr Sheen before you start

It must just be my laptop then, like Nigel mentioned I also see it sometimes in blue skies sometimes, but I don't see it in your larger version, so must be due to the resizing.

You can also buy smoked black glass from Ikea for a tenner that works very well and as its smoked you can place coloured paper under it to change the smoked colour
Could you not just use any old piece of glass with coloured paper underneath and achieve the same result: or does it need to be designer glass:

All the best...Jim
No, it has to be designer!
They sell smoked or clear lol!
It's even got curved edges so you can't hurt yourself!
Old greenhouse glass and gaffer tape would do me I work on a tight budget.

Not sure if it's just my laptop, but the background seems to have vertical "bands" of at least 3 or 4 different shades of black especially on the right hand side but also on the left near the base of the bottle, I am sure there is a technical name for this effect, but whatever it is called I find it too distracting in this image. Is it caused by resizing for PU forum or over processing or both.
