In which case I already have one of those. What I'm looking for is one of the flattish rectangular hoods that go with the M28/2.8 (still 49mm).

By an extraordinary stroke of luck I've managed to bag an original metal hood for my Takumar 58 (46mm thread), which means my poor 28mm is now the only lens in my collection that doesn't have a hood of its own...

I really should scan eBay again I suppose.

Well, two and a half years on from my initial post I still haven't got myself a Pentax 6x7, nor any lenses for one, so I still haven't tried anything on my K10D.

I do now have a 645 though so I'm a step closer to getting there...

Which lens is the hood for and what diameter is the thread?

I prefer the exposure of the second one but I prefer the composition of the first as there's more foreground interest - maybe cut the bottom off the second to give it a more letterbox style crop? Just above those two nearest patches of lillies so there's still some blue sky in the reflection but not too much.

It's a nice picture and a lovely setting but the wrong time of day I feel - the sky facing you was too bright to ever hope to get a balanced exposure, whereas if the Sun had been at your back...

Still, we can't always have perfect lighting or there'd be no fun in photography.

The blades are out of step. The one on the left should be laying over the two pointing down and, moving counter-clockwise, there's one that's not popping up at all.

Re-setting them is simple enough in theory but incredibly frustrating in practice - you need at least three hands with a minimum of six fingers on each (or so it's seemed on the couple of occassions I've had a go). The most vital tools are a bottle of scotch, a wall to bang your head against and sound-proofing to avoid upsetting the neighbours during your 10 hour scream-and-swearathon...

The crop factor for 645 is about 0.6, so a 75mm lens has about the same angle of view as a 45mm lens in 35mm terms - a perfect normal walkabout lens really. If you added the 45mm (27mm equiv) and 150mm (90mm equiv) then you'd have a nice classic 3 lens line up with a common filter size and comparatively compact dimensions - happy days!

The 645N is quite a nice bit of kit, and £795 is a good price for a boxed example, but if you can focus manually then the original 645 is the bargain of the bunch and the pictures are just as good...
