Does the original insert lift out without damaging it? If so I'd say go ahead, if not then sell it and use the money to buy a proper flight case.

Maybe the version without aperture blades uses Waterhouse Stops like a Lensbaby? I haven't seen or heard of such a beast but it might just exist..?

I don't know what $500 Aus works out to in £GBP but I'd say it was worth more than that. It dates from the 1950's and was only produced in small numbers, those that have them seem to rate them higher than any of the 85mm designs that followed - consequently they tend to be priced quite high.

Recently one was offered on eBay for £800 but didn't sell, I've seen them sell before at around the £500 mark though. I reckon you've found quite a bargain there.

Of all the M42 lenses I've bought and sold the 28/3.5 is the only one I miss. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a replacement...

Nice looking outfit anyway

I personally love the results from Foveon sensors, I'm just not so enamoured with the cameras they come in. I'd like to see Pentax offer one of their bodies with a Foveon option - I'd buy it.
Would you remember those Optik sets that Magnus Pyke endorsed in the 80's - you could actually construct a plastic film camera and telescopes with the kit - which worked to a degree....

The SA/SD cameras just remind me of that...
I do remember - that's probably what's putting me off!

So what were they making there?
I'm currently selling a Takumar (Bayonet) 135/2.5 on eBay which is marked "Made in Taiwan" - so lenses for starters.

I use a K10D and FA43 and they work fine together, I have calibrated the AF on the camera though.

Speaking of backwards lens compatibility: 102 year old lens on a 5DmkII
I can beat that - 121 year old lens on a K10D with metering, focus confirmation and image stabilisation.

I like this shot very much indeed! The composition is excellent as is the expression on your subject's face. It has a very film-like quality - was it shot on film or are very good at mimicing it in Photoshop? Either way that's an excellent first picture to post.
