As a general rule old zoom lenses tend to be inferior (image quality wise) to more modern designs, however, old prime lenses are usually capable of excellent results. John's right that those with the "A" position on the aperture ring are more convenient, but those without (even old M42 screw fit lenses) are still quite useable with a little practice.

And I use a number of smaller cards rather than one big one.

I've found Chinon lenses in general offer very good performance for comparatively few £££'s - the 50/1.9 should be more than capable

Hefty,

I think my mental bulb just went on , you mean Av mode, choose the aperture and the ISO and let it choose the shutter value for me ha,
that's what it means isn't it?

Because the only other mode in order to choose all three would be on the M mode, right?

Thanks

Amin
That's excatly what I meant - in Av mode you choose the aperture and the ISO and the camera will decide the shutter speed. If it selects a really long shutter speed then in this instance it doesn't matter as the camera is being held steady by the tripod.

There's a lot to take in when you first start with photography but you'll find more and more of it becoming second nature before you realise it.

I looked but I have to confess this isn't a lens that's very high up my list of wants either. In fact, unless you were going for an "all-Limited" set why would anyone buy it over the DA14/2.8? I'd have rather Pentax had spent their resources on getting the DA*30/1.4 onto the market a bit sooner but I'm sure they have their reasons...

Never been to Chiswick Camera Centre but if they don't have Pentax equipment for you to try (and many shops don't) then there's a branch of SRS Microsystems in Rayners Lane that certainly will.

I wasn't the only one shocked to get £89 for a M200/4 then? Quite a few bidders on that item too, they must be getting popular again!

And yes Clarky, I thought the FA28-70/4 was a nice performer in the brief time it was in my hands but I just couldn't picture me using it over any of the lenses I already have. If I kept *every* piece of camera equipment that found its way back here I'd need a much bigger house...

That detail about artificial light did in fact bug me, and I picked that one up instantly, you are absolutely right. Even I with the lack of experience can feel that the flash is somewhat ruining a little but I thought being indoors and not having enough light I was limited to the situation. Now that you tell me to open up the shutter I am so keen in doing that I cant wait for tomorrow to try it. I get reasonaly enough light from my patio doors, not enough for small shutter values but I am sure going to those numbers you suggest it should be more than enough.
That's the joy of having a tripod though! With a still life (like these flowers) you can set the camera up on the tripod, stick it in Av mode, stop the lens down to (say) f11 and the ISO to 100 (for best results) and it doesn't matter if the shutter speed is incredibly long - nothing's going to move! For best results without a remote use the camera's delay function - you can then press the shutter and retreat to a safe distance to minimise any chance of shake during the exposure.

I stand to be corrected, but it seems to me that there are far more postings/posters/activity since the refurb.

I think you're right but I don't have stats to back that up - just a feeling...

The lens I wanted was an M42 Zeiss Pancolar 50/1.8 - not really had a chance to try it properly yet but may end up keeping it, may end up selling that too...

Did I get my money back? Oh yes! Several times over in fact, hence I'm a happy bunny right now.

Good man! As I pointed out on your invoice that was the best bit as far as I was concerned - soooooooooo tempted to keep it for myself so I'm glad it's going to a good home.
