I get on better with the split prism so it really is a case of each to their own...

If I'm taking a picture and there is no good vertical line I simply move the camera into portrait mode, use a horizontal line, then flip the camera back down again.

The results are up and congratulations to mikew for winning a hotly contested competition. Glad I don't win very often 'cos the judging is really hard!

Well it's gone midnight so you can all stop making my life more difficult by submitting such great entries!

I've been judging through the week but I need to tidy my notes etc so the judgement should be up in a couple of hours...

I get mine done by the lab at the time of processing and sent to me on CD. Not the cheapest method but I probably only use 4-5 rolls of film a year so cheaper than buying a scanner expressly for the purpose.

That doesn't sound like fungus (that appears more like a spider's web of thin random veins) but it does sound like seperation of the elements. Glass elements are bonded together with a special glue and when the glue starts to let go (which could be for a number of reasons) then you see a pale circular patch like the one you describe.

If the binoculars are still under warranty then you could get them changed, if not then the cost of repair is likely to be higher than the cost of a new pair - sorry!
