While we're on the subject of long exposures, is it ever possible to damage the camera (sensor or suchlike) by doing really long exposures? - I'm talking 10 minutes plus here. I have a vague recollection of someone once saying it could overheat, but have no idea if that's true!

Would there be a problem if the battery ran out while the shutter was open?

Peter - I occasionally get this problem on my K10 with my Takumar 55. I usually find if I unscrew it then screw it back in carefully, making sure the red 'diamind' f-stop marker is at the true top of the lens, it seems ok. Sometimes it just needs that extra bit of a twist to get it to focus properly.

Thanks for taking the time to post these Jules - nice shots by the way, really good clarity. I also struggled using the 15mm with a polariser, but the one I used was a linear - sky on one side of the frame a lovely deep blue, but blown out on the other corner!

Re. the Hi Tech filters - will let you know if I change to the 12-24mm, but no plans yet, still mulling it over.

The light coming through the trees is captured nicely. The plants at the bottom of the frame are a bit distracting - maybe a crop and a bit of cloning?

The screw-in lens cap for the 15mm extends about 5mm before widening out to the bit you grip to unscrew it, so looks like 5mm would do to clear it ok. I assume vignetting at the corners of the image must set in pretty soon after that as the built-in hood when fully extended only protrudes about 6 or 7mm in the bits that correspond to the corners of the frame. Suppose it would depend on how quickly the filter system 'widens-out' after the screw thread.

Best thing would be for me to trot along to a shop, camera in hand to try out Mhuni's idea but struggling to find anywhere near Manchester that sells LEE, nearest seems to be Leeds.

Matt - I'd never thouoght about the problem of the grads with a lens with a small front element before - thanks for bringing that up - and cheers to Mhuni and Jules for their input too - It's not looking so hopefull that that I'll get the sysytem I really want to work properly on it.


Such a shame as I really like the 15mm but this problem is throwing a real spanner into the works -all my other lenses I figure would be fine, but the one I reckon would be the most useful with the filters is the one causing the headache!

Thanks again - might have to consider selling it and going for the DA14m or DA12-24 - had some specific types of shot in mind that I'm not sure I can pull off without certain fiters.

No probs....

May have to get the same if I find the square filter systems wont go on the 15mm......
