I have only had it for a few months, already there's a lot of dust on the sensor, (According to the dust device.) I wonder if the dust alert mechanism actually puts dust on. )
When using the dust alert program point the camera at a plain surface.

I didn't and found the 'dust' spots were actually the ceiling light !!!

You may be right Ben, in which case my FA lenses might find new found favour. Although I do rather like the Quick Shift facility on the DA lenses...
John, I believe that most of the recently introduced lenses are FF. We know that Hoya hired consultants to develop a new strategy for Pentax, this would almost certainly have included a review of the lens lineup. I may well be wrong, but it could explain why many took so long to come to market after first appearing on the roadmap.

So does this mean the latest lenses are in fact suitable for use on a 35mm size sensor?

Not just maximised for the APS-C sensor!

I also have the M 40mm pancake, I use with my LX, K10 & K20. Its a good walk about town lens, has excellent definition, useful in and around crowds, does not protrude too much, I have had some superb shots with it and you can still pick them up for a reasonable price i believe
But the one I had was only reasonable optically. There are a lot out there on Ebay at stupid prices.

Save your money and buy a new lens, that's only my opinion based on being conned by a seller who was economical with the truth!

And don't believe that the SMC-M 40 is a rare lens, it isn't!

The "Equivalent Game" is just there for the benefit of lens manufacturers. They want to make out you're getting more for your money. They omit to point out that, for wide angle lenses, you are getting LESS.
I'll agree with that.

But I will add that a 'Standard' 18-55 digital lens can be used on some film bodies with no problems above 24mm (I think), I know, I've done it.

As for 200mm becoming 300mm, that's what the crop factor does to the lens. My AGFA Issolette has an85mm lens on a large format body. the lens is the 120 film equivalent of a 35mm film 50mm lens.

But it's still called 85mm!

As 'spider said, 35mm film frame size has become a standard and other formats measure against it.

Lens sizes (50mm, 200mm etc) are still quoted in 35mm sizes even though they're'digital' lenses. this helps stop confusion when using older lenses designed for film as well as digital designs.

Think how confusing it would be if the DA* 200 was called DA*300, but only produced the same size image as a SMC 200.

That's how I see it, we just have to live with it.

On the plus side it's not just Pentax that do this everybody does.

It won't just be SMC-A lens that will rise in price, ALL K mount ones will!

Still, if the adaptor works on the new PEN then...

I seem to get a new camera every three years or so.

Following that rule when I next look the K-7 could(should!) be more affordable, Hoya/Pentax will probably be discounting to clear stock for the 'next' model, so I'll probably get one.

I'm willing to wait, I can't afford £1200, but who knows what the price will be then?

I think, reading above the first photo, that he's using the AF160FC ring flash Clarky.
