Something Different in B&W

Coming back late yesterday from the World Expo, again - this time after playing tour guide and entertaining some Czech friends / clients of my wife's (and having some wonderful Czech food at the Czech Pavilion !) I spotted this couple coming down the opposite side of the escalator. Poorly lit, no flash, 1,600 at 2.8 (43 Ltd) 1/200, and it was a very noisy shot. However I wasn't prepared to bin it as I liked the subject matter so much ! What do you think ? Does this work for anyone ?
Pentax SMC Fa 80-320 fits a Kx?
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
Yes I had one and it worked perfectly on my K7 - however I ditched this one fast. It's not a great lens - not at all sharp. You are much better off with the DA 55-300 which is a brilliant lens for the price, or failing that, I also have the Tamron 70-300 macro and that's a fine lens with an excellent 1:2 macro mode I can recommend too. Plenty of the Tamrons on EBay and even a new one will only set you back 115 pounds or so (some with a 5 yr guarantee) . A cheeky bid on one of the auction items could get you a real bargain - it's an excellent lens and not far off the 55-300.
Pentax 1.7x AF Teleconverter

I think this could get downright dirty :
Any advice on choosing a AF teleconverter?

Actually you can ... but only in Japan. They make a new batch now and again and not in any great quantities because theoretically they are only for the Japanese market. EU & USA regulations forbid their importation because they contain a tiny amount of radioactive material (as some other old lenses do). Many bald-headed shooters you see (moi for instance) are likely to have lost their hair due to extended use of some old M42 lenses or an AFA !that's really interesting. i can get one from japan? i might go on holiday there soon, and am on the lookout for one. do you have any more information on that?Since I haven't been a member for 30 days I can't send PMs ! Once I have I'll send you the details - its a bit convoluted but can be done. If you are actually in Japan though then it should be easy - but I'd also expect you to be able to pick one up on the street.

If anyone else is after one, then there is one currently on ebay (don't know if links are allowed) as part of an SF7 kitI'm watching that also, was hoping no one saw it  I think it'll go for rich money judging by the questions asked and also as it has on it a Pentax-F 50mm f1.4 See the top question at the foot of the auction page, thats mine.......want a cheap camera for the wife, whats your buy it now price :lol:Ha ha - me too.

Hang on! How does a teleconvertor turn a manual focus lens into an autofocus lens :? :?the Pentax 1.7x does this by having a small amount of focus in the actual Teleconvertor. So you manually focus to "almost there" and the TC does the fine-tuneing. That's why the 1.7x commands such a huge price premium second-hand (you can't get it new any more *slaps forehead*). There are rumours of Pentax talking to people about new SDM TC's, but could come to nothing, don't expect anything anytime soon...Actually you can ... but only in Japan. They make a new batch now and again and not in any great quantities because theoretically they are only for the Japanese market. EU & USA regulations forbid their importation because they contain a tiny amount of radioactive material (as some other old lenses do). What lens in range 28-90mm?
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
The Sigma 24-70 2.8 macro has had excellent reports and personally I can't decide between that the Tamron 17-50 2.8 or the older Tamron 28-75 2.8 or one of the Sigmas 17-70 2.8 - 4 macro or the 28-70 2.8. Difficult decision, the Tamron 17-50 seems to get the nod for portraits but the Sigma range seems more usable. All these other suggestions here are just adding to my quandary !

Thank you for all your kind comments - very welcoming indeed, I think I'm going to like it here ! I'm on a few other sites but, although living in China, how could I not register on my 'home' forum ;) K10D - you shouldn't have turned that down mate (though of course I'm not privy to the reasons why of course) but 99% of expats love it here ! Totally amazing city, I've been here for 13 years now.

Qi Bao is a town just 5 miles from my home in Shanghai, it is a recognised, but very minor, Water Town, of which there are a few in and around the Shanghai municipality. This was taken with the Sigma 10-20 on a K7. Manual exposure, 1/200, F5.6, ISO 200, at 12mm. Light was fading but I wanted to keep the speed up (wind) and ISO down !
