For sale: Pentax K200D plus loads of lenses and accesories

You will definitely be better off selling separately. Difficult to find a buyer for all that as most people on here already have their own kit. You'll make more too by breaking it.

I have the F 70-210 and I think it's a very sharp lens. Sharper than the Tamron 70-300 (which I also have) but not as sharp as the DA 55-300. It does well in low light despite it's relatively slow speed and AF is always snappy too.

Plus just what do you do when the lens develops an intermittent fault. Pop back to the shop where somebody else bought it. You have no contract with the retailer and the UK importer will look at it and get a bit sniffy, "sorry mate, grey import". You are taking on the risk when you import. Purchasing from UK supplier means you get EU and UK consumer protection. Hence the increased cost to the sellers passed on to the consumer.IF that happens - and I've bought many lenses and *touches wood* haven't had a problem yet - then you've already saved a bundle so ship it back to the USA as 'used item for repair' or for exchange, if you've paid the duty once you're covered. Worst case scenario is you break even, much greater chance you'll still end up ahead. There are of course other ways around it. It isn't that you won't have ANY guarantee, it's that it won't be a UK one. There still shouldn't be an issue getting it serviced in the UK if you get a Worldwide Guarantee. Are you saying Pentax won't repair their own lenses unless bought in the UK ?

VAT. Import Duty. These things add significantly to the imported price. You've also not factored in your other expenses - travel to and from airports, car parking costs in the UK, possibly hotel in the USA, definitely meals....it's not so clear cut and definitely harder work. Not as much as you would think. Firstly let's look at how much it costs to have the lense sitting on the dock. If we use the US$ price as a base then we can assume a CIF price of maybe GBP200 (US$300 with the remaining $250, of the MSRP US$550, going to cover mark-up and in-country transportation cost). Add VAT at (currently) 17.5% (GBP 35.00) and the Import Duty on lenses into the UK is just 6.7% (GBP 13.40) so you now have your lens legally imported (and you can claim back the VAT if you are registered) for just GBP248.40 . Mark-up in the USA was ca. US$250 and in the UK GBP351.50 . Alternatively you can buy one direct from the USA : Cost of lense : $550.00 Transport (ca.) $40.00 Insurance (ca.) $10.00 VAT (@ 17.5%) : $96.25 Import Duty (@6.7%) $36.85 In your hand US$733.10 or (at 1.5 : 1) GBP488.73 . And that's assuming the Customs pick up on the lense in transit, they may not, and no discounts on purchase price in the USA (and again you can claim back VAT if you are registered). A GBP110 saving off the bat and could be a lot more depending on your VAT registration, US discounts and C&E vigilance !

I was surprised to see that one on ebay only managed 188.57 plus 1.72 for 1st class post??? = 190.29 Could it be that he had One Negative Feedback (for a 7.67 item) from a buyer who seems to give quite a bit of neutral feedback? For this he got: "lego was dirty and unsuitable for a child - overpriced as inaccurate description"I saw that too but opted to go for the charity package of lenses (inc. an AFA) instead. I was surprised it went for such a low price but as Mike said - there may be reasons for that. Poor quality pic and just a little negative feedback (everyone else's was OK though).

I'm sure I read it will be priced at $549. 600 pounds is surely not correct. Once the discounts start maybe around $450 - 500 after Xmas ?

Well that fetched a price didn't it :D Who won it then, Mike, are you now the proud owner :?:*shyly raises hand* It makes sense for me. As I live in China I have to pay ca. $150 for every lens I bring in that the customs spot (I got burned twice on M42s like this :( ). However my father is coming for a visit from next week so he's bringing the lot over (and a Tamron 500 and and and ..... I've been very active on EBay the past month) :D I know I can also sell on the SF7 and other lenses here, I'll keep the AFA & FA50 (maybe let my Tak 50/1.4 go) and still 'nearly' break even. Sorry Mike.

ISO - you can use this Japanese company to buy the item and send it to you, cost around US$10 to 15 for the service : http://www.tenso.com/en/shopping/index.html and sometimes it comes up on the Japanese Amazon (US$375) : http://www.amazon.co.jp/HOYA-F-AFアダプタ1-7X-AFアダプター1-7X/dp/B002HJUMF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1284234835&sr=1-1-spell None in stock now but they usually have them once every couple of weeks. I've just won mine on EBay so will have it by the weekend !

Nestos - you have an absolute bargain. I have the Tamron 90 and think it's a wonderful lens - however I believe the DFA 100 is, if anything, a touch sharper. The main difference is the limiters - I believe the Pentax doesn't have one whereas both the Sigma and Tamron do - but you can work around that. A no-brainer at that price since neither the Sigma nor Tamron are WR so you've lost nothing in comparison. Enjoy !

The only problem I have with the 55-300mm is that it isn't as good as the 80-320mm for MF. I still use the 55-300mm though. If I could buy a Brand New 80-320mm I would.Yes, the focusing ring is rather small and not quite in the right place for me, but it does retain the ability to AF and then just manually tune it, without having to flip a switch or pull a ring, to get it spot on if needed.

Err, 80-320 not sharp? this one is sharper than a budgies beak; That's a nice shot, not tack sharp, but very nice - but the 55-300 is going to be sharper, no question.

All I can say mate is that having had all 3 (and the Tak 300mm) the 80-320 is the only one I got rid of. I have some nice shots from it, as the budgie shot above shows it's not incapable, but overall it is nowhere near as good as the other two where it matters ..... in the field. As I've already said re. Tamron, the PF is rarely an issue and easily corrected in PP. I found a nice one on-line with a dealer going for just GBP69 and there are plenty to be had up to 100. If he has the cash it's a no brainer, 55-300's quality is way above it's price range, however the Tamron makes a nice alternative - especially with it's 1:2 macro, it's a very versatile lense.

I have seen fantastic shots, on another forum, taken at airshows with the 55-300 & a K7, the sharpness of those shots was one of the main reasons I went out and bought the lens. Someone did a comparison with the 55-300 and all different teleconvertors. Clear winner was the Pentax 1.7x - but then all the others were 2x so maybe a Kenko 1.5x or Tamron 1.4x might be better !

Thank you for your comments Peter. You may be right and I've over processed it a bit - her face was extremely noisy so I used Nik's Define to specifically adjust noise reduction for that aspect of the shot. On another forum someone suggested adding a bit of grain to remove the smoothness from her face (however many Chinese women do have remarkably smooth skin) !

We ran some tests on another site (Tamron v 55-300) and the Pentax came out a fraction better on the PF and generally sharper. The PF has never been an issue unless shooting in very high contrast scenes - even then it's easily removed in PP. However there is a reason why the 80-320 is so cheap and not ever mentioned as a good option in the longer zoom range. Having had all three, and a Tak 300, the 80-320 is the only one that has left the stable. Maybe as you say I had a bad copy - can't say now !

Really like 1 or 2 (can't decide) and 3 is like an optical illusion, an alternative to a rorschach test. I see a double headed pig!!! (long day at work).Me too. Wonder what that says about me because I gave work a miss today :D Like #1 best.
