I bet the army paid for those.
They didn't. The guy is on the other forum and has a ton of posts and shots of his time in Afghanistan. He is still in active service.

Absolutely genuine and he has no sponsors.

Great shots again - if this isn't an incentive for me to get out there next weekend and try to snap that pair of Oriental's then nothing is !

Pentax have got the best position for the lens change button; under the right hand. Pentax must stick to this. This to me, is a major feature for good handling. Canon and Nikon have lens change buttons on the left hand, which ruins the handling, when changing lenses.
Absolutely correct ! The Nikon system is horrible !

The menu on the D90 is terrible, have you tried changing the focussing mode from centre point to user select????
Not sure if the menu system has changed from the D90 to the D800 (sounds like it has) but I quite like the menu system. Particularly 'My Menu' - you can select items (up to 20) and add them to your own custom menu, that works very well indeed.

Selecting a focus point (lockable) other than centre is done via the rotary selector so no need to access the menu at all.

Great catch Alan ! The last is a really beautiful shot. Well done indeed.

Yesterday was my first outing with the D800 and Sigma 500 and we spotted 3 Oriental Cuckoos (2xM and 1xF) but I couldn't get any decent shots (record shots only) as these birds flew back and forth between two locations (in 10 secs) that required us trudging 10 mins in each direction - we gave up after the fourth attempt, they were just playing with us

Had the consolation (major !) of the exceedingly rare Fairy Pitta though.

The Red Tailed Hawk (Buteo Jamaicensis) is also of the Buzzard family. I have noticed on various bird forums that over in the USA it is often very difficult to tell the difference between the RT Hawk and the Red Shouldered Hawk (huge debates erupt based on minor possible differentiating markings !) due to the age or location of the bird.

Could be either of those !

It depends on what lenses you have already and what type of shooting you do. If well stocked in that dept then another K5 would not go amiss but that would depend on whether, for the individual, it would be an advantage to have two identical cameras.

Love to have seen them. Anybody on here going / been to the docks ?

Love the bird, love the shots, not at all sure about the PP - you seem to have lost so much detail from the feathers etc. and everything seems 'smoooooth'. Maybe the NR did this - which one did you use ?

#4,8,17,18 and 19 are the ones that stand out for me (nice torch shot too), with #19 the overall winner.

I hope the red-head doesn't see that shot !

Very enjoyable set that I took some time to peruse.
