If you zoom to extend the lens to telephoto, that could double the internal volume - if it was soaking wet, wouldn't that suck water inside the lens and/or camera, despite the seals? Similarly if you zoom to wide-angle while it was covered in sand/dust, wouldn't that get caught in the seals and scratch the lens barrels?

Not sure about the 16-50 which extends, but the 50-135 is all internal with no extending parts. Does it work? Well YES! As I have proved several times in Monsoon weather, like last week.

I have a feeling that even inside the seals are there, as even my little 18-55 WR works fine in weather that we have had all summer with no residue or water inside.

They didn't. The guy is on the other forum and has a ton of posts and shots of his time in Afghanistan. He is still in active service.

Absolutely genuine and he has no sponsors.
