These are really good, I love the 'wide aperture' approach. I bet the lady in #5 was pleased you managed to capture her wrinkles so vividly!

What I do like is the vigorous sense of composition. This gives me a sense that the photographer has acted knowing what he is doing and making his statement with positive intent. I would expect nothing less from Smeggypants, who is sure of his own moral ground. This comes across in the pictures.
What I don't like is what I see as over-processing that I feel goes beyond where it should be held back with just a slight touch of restraint. Too sharp, too harsh, too saturated.....for me.
Interestingly, I don't see that much evidence that a wide aperture approach has been used. I haven't tried to check the EXIF data, just used my eyes, but the effect and strength in these I think comes from the composition, not from an aperture setting.

Hi John, I was basing the observation on certain images, not the whole bunch. I know from previous posts that Smeggy is fond of using his lenses 'wide open' and I think that is evident in some of the pictures in this series. Smeggy, can you confirm or deny?Interestingly, I don't see that much evidence that a wide aperture approach has been used. A most enjoyable set, though I tuned out a bit around the flame and Lord Coe.
They seem to be more like sideways glances at what people were doing at Olympic themed events and very good for that, as most subjects seem to be having fun

Even though I do generally keep the lens wide open, I had to look through the EXIF myself to confirm. Yes, apart from #4 and #5 ( which are only slightly stopped down - ***slaps wrist*** ) they are all indeed as wide open as possible. johnriley wrote:

#21 to #25 are all Sigma 30/1.4 @ 1.4, and the only regret is not having a smaller aperture to capture more of the little kiddie in focus in #21. I had about 10 milliseconds to grab that shot though and there simply wasn't time to adjust accordingly. Better to get capture the moment than miss it due to technical faffing around IMO

Cheers for looking peeps
I only had one person make a hand gesture that he didn't want to be snapped at he Olympic event, and I respect that and moved on.
A lot of people think I'm working for some publication too and ask where they can see the pics.

Great set again, you always amaze me with your bottle to point the camera at total strangers. I'm very reluctant to do it.
I love the simplicity of 12.
It's a lot easier at events compared to on the street, as people are generally in a more outgoing and accommodating mood. Plus they expect photographers to be there.Great set again, you always amaze me with your bottle to point the camera at total strangers. I'm very reluctant to do it.

#4,8,17,18 and 19 are the ones that stand out for me (nice torch shot too), with #19 the overall winner.
I hope the red-head doesn't see that shot !
Very enjoyable set that I took some time to peruse.
