As for focus points nearly all the top studio photographers use centre point and decompose!
Oo-er mister ! Thank God I'm not into studio portraiture ! And I won't be using centre-point any more either just in case !

It seems from your comments that you are veering in the direction of portrait photography with all your talk about flash and accessories. There is no reason at all to ditch yoru K5 if that is the case - there are some fantastic lenses in the Pentax line-up that are brilliant for portraiture and there is a superb studio tog in Paris, Ben Kanjoran (sp.) who used the K20D until recently upgrading to the K5 - if he can shoot covers for Vogue and Harper's Baazar (which he does all the time) then there is not much wrong with the kit.

It really is horses for courses, I bought a D800 for birding and it's a fantastic camera, but the K5 is in my bag on a daily basis. And the build quality of the K5 exceeds that of the Nikon, a camera which at today's prices costs nearly 4 times more.

As far as the AF for the K5 is concerned - it has only bothered me when shooting birds where the D800 is absolutely miles ahead - as it should be for the money and a newly designed camera.

Not sure at all I agree with Pentax having better IQ though. They both seem to me to be superb .... and it's more about the lenses and the user than the camera.

These are wonderful shots Charis - #1 is an absolute killer but I really like #3 too (and I think the focus is in the right place).

Problem now is that I'm struggling to concentrate even when I'm Photographing, and usually forget a vital setting or end up with everything shot in Jpeg, or the focus turned off, or shoot a load of Landscapes at F2.8, frustrates the hell out of me! I don't think it's helping my health anymore, which I always felt it did in the past, so it feels like a good time to duck out...
Maybe having a check list for each occasion and then ticking them off prior to shooting would help. Maybe the Q as someone mentioned - just for light relief ?

That's a very, very sad post Jules. There's no merit in getting older but this wonderful hobby we have can be very therapeutic. To get out whatever the weather and peer through your viewfinder can be a great aid to forgetting one's ills and worries. However, I'm sure you haven't taken this decision without a lot of heart searching so very best wishes to you.
It looks like you've got some great bargains there so I doubt it will take long to find some buyers. Good luck....
+ 1 to the above.

Very sorry to hear of your afflictions Jules. We can only hope that time will resolve some of them. Good luck.

I bought a Q (but no Q lenses !) specifically for this purpose. I'm afraid as a birder it just doesn't work as the camera shake induced blur when hand-held just destroys the image. I tested it with a Zeiss 85/1.4 and the Tamron 90/2.8 to give 467.5 / 495mm, amongst other lenses. Didn't even bother to try it on the DA*300mm (2,650mm) !

Well since I said hand-held and that was taken on a tripod .....

It can be done, imtheguy just posted a stunning shot with the Q & 500mm on the other site - but it's just not worth the effort. As he said - you need a bird that stands still for 10 secs (LOL) so a LOT of patience is required as the failure rate is sky high !!

If it were me I'd be looking for a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. While I upgraded to the 16-45, I hardly use it as I tend to go wider with the Sigma 10-20.

The Tamron being f2.8 would get more use in low light. Get it from an approved stockist and you can get a 5 year guarantee with it too.

+1 to this. The Tammy is a really fine lens that gives superb results. Look for some of Cabstar's stage shots taken with the 17-50.

Bottom line spend has just shot up for you though

Better glass will get you better pics but you need to know how the glass renders and if the FL is one you use a lot of. So the first thing we need to know is what you shoot and at what focal lengths - then the debate can commence.

You are not going to get enough comparisons of the type you are asking for to come to any definitive conclusions because people simply don't shoot an identical scene with two lenses !

Check Flikr or pBase for shots from lenses you are interested in - you can usually start to get a feel for the nature of each lens. However don't forget that the competency of the shooter matters too !
