Love #5 but would lose half of the dark bottom.

They look young ! Yep I'm mightily impressed with the K5 high ISO too. It's bloody brilliant to use TAv, select my preferred shutter speed and aperture and let the K5 take care of the ISO (up to the limit I've set).

Good shots - I think, like you, that the 24-70 would have done a good job here.

Looking through these again I notice that the bikes often tend to be too far to the front of the framing .... it would be better to get some space in front of them.

I like these a lot and think you did great first time out - I actually loved the B&W at the end of the first set (though it isn't my favourite, there are a few others I prefer).

You're using a K5 - if you use TAv then you can set the DOF you want (4 to F5.6 for me) and very importantly the speed too and let the K5 take care of the ISO - in those conditions that looks like too high an ISO would definitely not have been a problem and you could have fired off a lot more shots on APS-C fps priority mode.

Yes Andy. I think he was a window cleaner. I would have got in closer for a picture but only had the 10-20mm lens with me as I prefer to do my city centre photography travelling light with just one lens and one camera body. Another time I might have had the DA*50-135mm with me.

I use a Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW (you could go for the 100 if you want really small) for walking around like that. It's perfect - takes camera and up to four lenses but with just one or two extra you don't even know it's there and you can just 'sling' it around for a quick change if you need too. Couple of extra pockets for bits and pieces - add the bottle accessary pocket if you want to carry water as well. No I don't work for LowePro !

Number 2 works best for me - very nice abstract indeed.

Great shots - the graffiti & biker is superb. Personally I agree with Thoughton that it should be cropped but I'd only take out the pillar on the right and the light at the top. I'd keep everything on the left and PP out the bike wheel at the base of the pillar - not necessary. Be careful about having your subject too central.

For the other two shots - both the B&W and colour versions work for me but I prefer the perspective in the B&W shot as the wider FOV doesn't add anything to the scene (and the whites are close to blowing out in that one too - maybe need to notch down the exposure just a tad). Make sure you keep a little space above your subjects (the colour version is better in this regard, the B&W is getting a little tight). Well done !

Lovely happy/sad story Adrian.

Cherish those memories, it sounds like your grandfather lived life to the full and enjoyed it - none of us can ask for more than that.

Love the first three but here's the C&C (Gareth I think I know why he shot wide open - you can't use long exposures otherwise stitching becomes very difficult because of cloud movement etc.).

All of them need more space above - they look very 'cramped' within the frames. So either a wider lense or ..... stand further back !

Be very careful about cutting off objects in their prime ... the light on the right in #3 is a perfect example.

Be careful about adding elements that add nothing to or detract from the shot (e.g. the building on the right in #4).

#2 is the best IMO with regard to all of these considerations.

I know what you mean about the set of 8 pier shots. It looks like it should be a cracking shot - but it's not for some reason.

Now when we come to the last two that Gareth posted for you then it was an immediate Yes ! And for me it is the first of those - not as detailed or sharp as the 2nd but there is more space in front of the pier in the first shot whereas the second looks rather cramped. Better clouds in the first one too.

The best shot is the gannets though - love it.
