Trying out Ektar

For the last year or so I have been using up my remaining stocks of Kodachrome 64. I had always used slide film for colour images because a number of them would always be for lecture purposes, and because I was never impressed with the odd roll of print film I had used.

Now, Kodachrome is no more and all my lectures use powerpoint leaving me free to try different films and see which one I like. I decided to try out the relatively new Kodak Ektar 100. My first impressions are very positive. Here are a few frames from my first roll shot using my MX and variety of Pentax manual prime lenses, commercial dev and scan.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

The colours are interesting, Kris. Quite cool (n the traditional sense)and restrained, I think. looks very sharp with loads of detail.

The last one may be one of your best colour shots. Lovely gradations. Ironic, eh? Travel to the New World and take your best stuff on your door step in Herts.! Slight trim top and bottom, I think but I tend to over-crop and constrict my subjects, so who knows?

Actually I've just taken another look at Sunset in Central Park. That's a pretty decent shot too.
Best wishes,

Andrew

The last one is lovely, I agree about the crop, both top and bottom.

I am glad to say that for once that was deliberate!
