I think it's just a matter of PPG population's taste? I personally do a lot of voting and there are very few street shots in there, compared to 1x for example.

That reminds me! I am having trouble posting PPG link in my signature line. Any ideas? Thanks

Cheers, Luka

I got the 55mm from Misfuds for £379 brand new, less a £35 Pentax voucher from a previous lens purchase which made the 2 lenses a similar price so went with the DA*. I just went to check on their web site and it is now £650 . That's a mad amount of money for a 55mm 1.4, long gone are the days when people could take up photography with a lesser known brand knowing lenses were reasonably priced.
Well, in Slovenia the regular price for 55/1,4 is 769€ and I can get sigma 50/1,4 for just over half of that price. Even the famous FA 50/1,4 is around 500€ after this year's price increase...

To stick to the subject, last week I purchased the M 40-80/2,8-4 MACRO. It seems to be a good performer, given the price they go for on the flea bay

My short experience with DA* 55/1,4 was more than good. But having the price/performance of sigma 50/1,4 in mind, I just can't justify reaching out for one...
@Nathan, I was just admiring the beautiful bokeh of the DA*. Honestly, I was. LOL

By the way: I really like reading this forum. It's so helpful and the atmosphere is very positive. Tons of great reading material!

@ Nathan: For a second I thought you meant you like "those two" on the first photo

p.s. DA* 50-135 is very good bokeh-wise, not to mention sharpness.

Vivitar 2/28 bokeh is certainly nice as an feature but it isn't for every type of photo.

Makinon 2,8/135 looks pleasant though, very nice Luka
Stefan I totally agree with you on the part of vivitar's bokeh. It's use is limited by the type of photo. In some cases, like the one above where there is some new year's lightning decoration, the photograph can benefit from it, but in many other cases, where you get multiple light sources in the background, it can be harsh and too obvious.

Mhuni, thank you for your compliments.

To continue with bokeh samples:

M42 pentacon 4/200 (old version with 16 aperture blades) @f/4

I have a couple of manual lenses with interesting bokeh. I'll start with these two:

Vivitar 2/28 (kiron made)@f/2:

taken on a walk through my lit-up hometown of Ljubljana (Slovenia)

another "day shot"

PK Makinon 2,8/135 @f/2,8:

In my opinon bokeh is a matter of personal taste. I can only speak for myself when saying that I like these two

I purchased the P30 this summer from ebay, as I was searching for some A 50/2 lens. Got a good deal for P30 and A 50/2 both for 27 pounds. I wonder if the previous owner is on this forum? (The camera was sold to Slovenia)

Anyways, it's a delightful camera. Shot a couple of films with it this summer - it felt really good to shoot on film again (you know the feeling, when every picture counts ).
If Pentax were to make a digital SLR with a P30 design body, I would probably be the first in line

I hope you don't mind me posting the topic for comments.

P.S. What's the deal with all the non-pentax equipment entries?

There are two things that bother me about the K-m bodied newcomer;
1. absence of the top LCD panel and
2. it doesn't superimpose AF points in the viewfinder.
Other than that, it seems like a blast. In the entry level, the decision once again seems quite obvious
