Yes I realise that. But I thought the high ISO nightclub shots were very good and there was particular praise for the AF (same on both) so I am interested in why it fell short of expectations.

I thought you were very positive about the mkII - I recall the nightclub shots. What was lacking?

What was the gap between the D7000 and the D7100? Two years? It's nowhere near replacement time yet, so the K-3 will have to become competitive with that quite quickly I'd have thought.
Exactly, the K5 came out very soon after the D7000 so both could command their premiums for a while. I think the K3 will have to go to £899 very quickly to tempt non Pentaxians to the K3. At which point the D7100 could go to £799. Tricky.

Unless of course the 'revolutionary' aa filter strikes a chord. Possible.

That's the trouble coming late to the party which was an inevitable consequence of the acquisition. If you want to increase market share then you have to compromise your release price. If you still want to price cream then you risk disgruntlement from your existing client base as prices will surely have to drop more quickly than usual.

It's a fair point and a good reason to use older primes which are solidly built so naturally weather resistant and some are cheap enough to risk using sacrificially anyway.

A WR wide zoom for landscape is clearly a glaring hole but I believe the update to the DA12-24 will be out soon enough (since it will be a variant of the already released Tokina 12-2 and I should imagine it almost certainly would be weather sealed. I think there is something in the 16-85 range on the roadmap.

If you wait for the next thing then you will wait forever. The K3 looks like a very good camera, but any of the current models is capable of excellent image quality so a decision to buy any of them is a good decision.

Can't really tell very much at all until the RAWs are available. The full size low iso jpegs released so far indicate possible worse noise performance than the K5 but that could be inept processing.

Those Sony cameras look odd! But full frame in a smaller than k5 camera (I'm guessing they're about the size of aP30 or smaller) sounds interesting! They will also make almost the perfect partner for those lovely old k lenses, making use of the whole imaging circle and offering superior focus peaking. I just wish Sony's menu system was better
I didn't realise that compatibility existed, I can certainly live without autofocus. £1300 for full frame is very reasonable and not a great price leap from the K3. I really hope Ricoh follow suit, it seems an obvious step to make. There's the full frame option for Pentax lenses right there. I'm sure somebody will be putting the performance of lenses with the larger sesnor to the test soon enough.

I believe that the import VAT and customs duty is paid by the customer. Basically you pay the handler (eg Royal Mail) a fee and they administer the formalities including settlement of fees with HMRC. So VAT would be applied but at the point of import, not dispatch.
