Yup, certainly interesting times ahead. I predict the price of FF will come down significantly in the future.

Those Sony cameras look odd! But full frame in a smaller than k5 camera (I'm guessing they're about the size of aP30 or smaller) sounds interesting! They will also make almost the perfect partner for those lovely old k lenses, making use of the whole imaging circle and offering superior focus peaking. I just wish Sony's menu system was better

I don't buy the clam that a FF Pentax camera has to be any or much bigger than a K-5/K-3
I've got several Pentax FF film cameras that while thinner, are not really any bigger width and height than the K-5.
Yes I know sensors, LCD screens, etc are thicker than film and that accounts for the bodies being thicker.
Even taking into account the extra real estate being used by the EM coils used to implement the sensor stabilisation system wth a bit of juggling I bet a FF camera could be the same size as a K-5/K-3

Yes a Pentax MX digital mirrorless Full Frame would be sooo good. MX is such fantastic design, I don't need anymore controls either or built in photoshop just full manual and that lovely big viewfinder....
Kudos to Sony, I handled by colleagues D800 yesterday, no no no, not for for me, walking about with a brick like that is not my idea of a good photographic experience

Sometimes I get a yearning for a camera like my old MX or my P30, nice and small, and classic looking. With a Pentax M or K prime lens they look and feel the business!
I wonder how I would cope with my DA50-135mm attached to such a small, grip-less body though?
To be honest I think the K5 / K50 size is just about right and could even go a bit bigger (K10 size).
Happy to go with something smaller specifically for using MF prime lenses (currently the NEX system fits the bill), but I wouldn't want that as my main camera really.

Do Sigma need to bother making lenses for such a small market? It is nice when a few £'s can be saved buying 'other' brand lenses
I also think the K7/K5 size is about right, but appreciate the Q is a perfect size for some.

I agree completely here, I certainly don't see why a Pentax 35mm body couldn't be the size of a K10D at the largest.
Just because Canon can't or wont produce a sensible sized 35mm body, doesn't mean Pentax wont.
you don't have to be mad to post here
but it does help

Nor me. The required thickness of the body is going to be ultimately determined by the lens registration distance plus sensor unit thickness. Now the lens registration distance is already set for FF rather than being optimized for APSC so that doesn't have to get bigger, and there isn't any reason a 35mm sensor unit should need to be thicker than an APSC sensor unit either.
What will have to increase in size a bit is the size of the viewfinder and maybe the height of the mirror box but that should be it and the differences should not be substantial. Of course as the sensor units area grows there is more pressure on 'spare space' to fit things in and the engineering to maintain small size gets harder - but electronics are getting smaller as well as time goes by so there should be less to fit in.

A bigger sensor unit might also mean a slightly more powerful SR mechanism. Not insurmountable I guess.
Best regards, John

Well yup there's more mass to vibrate, but I think a more powerful set of coils could be designed without makign them bigger. The expense would be more current from the battery

Seen as i was very careful to bot even mention the make or model that was on offer your response seems unfair john.

Our sensor benefactor has just announced two FF mirror less interchangeable lens cameras. 24Mpx and 36Mpx resp. If Ricoh do launch a FF I am guessing that it may use one of those sensors.
The end of 2013 is getting to be interesting. 2014 could be a good year for photographers.
Best regards
