I have a K20D and I always shoot RAW. The camera had a vertical banding problem which has proved an unbelievable pita to get repaired but the sensor and PCB have now been replaced. When I first started using it I shot JPEG's and I must admit I was very unimpressed indeed, so I shot RAW and I have continued to do so. However, since those replacement parts were fitted I have noticed that the white balance in particular is much more accurate than it first was and I figure that JPEGS will probably come out of camera much better too. However, as I am used to RAW now I doubt I will ever go back to find out. I process in Lightroom and I find it a pleasure processing the RAW files.

I agree that nothing needs to be changed, apart from a very slightly less wide crop. I like the image a lot, the mist lends an sense of abandonment. If it were mine my tweak would be an antique feel:

After reading about the Pentax Photo Gallery here I thought I'd give it a go, so I submitted twenty photos. The first four were rejected, so I was a bit surprised to find the next five have gone in. The others are still under review. There are some stunning photos in that gallery so I'm pleased to be in esteemed company.

However, there is a darker side to this gallery, which I suppose is the point. After having looked at the shots taken with the DA*50-135 I need one badly. The only barrier to me getting one is that I am unable to get SRS to take my money, which may not be a bad thing for my marriage.

Congratulations to all the entries. Great fun. I was on my way to this guy - 'the friendly monster tree' when I saw the set up for the dog. I entered the dog as I thought it was funnier. Both pictures are rubbish because my K20D developed its latest fault - which was to activate sensor cleaning whenever you take a photo, which is not funny:

I've submitted a few photos for consideration there recently. Reading through the guidelines they seem to want in-camera effects only. Maybe that was a factor. I prefer the original colors - they seem to lend much greater depth to the view through the window. In fact I don't much like the colour of the first.

I thought the reason why I and other contributors like the shots was explained.

Criticised for liking a photo. I never said these were great photos. But I enjoyed them and I think they work together. I don't see much wrong with that. Is this section only for technical experts to comment on photos? I'm a beginner. I have posted my own photos and I have appreciated the comments on them. People have taken their time to do this and I feel I should in some way reciprocate, but I can't talk technically about photography in the way that some people can. There are high standards here and it is quite daunting for a newbie to join a forum such as this - join in competitions and discussions on photos. And I'm kind of getting the message this isn't really welcome. I'm happy to step back and just observe.

I wouldn't have those shots framed. But there are stories there made by the characters - and my eye is immediately drawn to them. I'm sat here in the middle of France and there's a well observed little slice of life back home. The other shots add context too. That's why I like the set. Becalmed is a little different - I like the portait aspect but it's difficult to appreciate the shot due to the scrolling required.

I make no comment on technical merit - I'm not qualified to do so in any event - but they just work, somehow and for me there's nothing wrong with a bit of intangible

I really enjoyed the first and last photos. They say so much about the British seaside.
