It's a very nice scene, great clarity. I can understand the extreme sharpening to bring out the detail in the snow, although even that's too much for me, but the rockface I think looks far too unnatural and harsh to look at.

That's an explanation that I finally understand.

If you look hard enough you can see the baby Jesus.

I really like the scene. Standard accommodation for rural France. The colours are great. The 'journey' through the photo for me is through the first door and then left through the next, so I would prefer more space left and less right.

Seeing the demos I think tight crops were the order of the day. I didn't get the idea either at the time so I didn't enter. Some of these crops are far too tight for me, particularly Batman up against the edge of the frame and the cutting off of the tree in crop in crop. But that's personal taste and I do like the idea of the judge showing exactly what he means by having a play with the images.

I agree that we'll see FF at £1,000 or thereabouts. The only additional lens I would need would be a wide zoom as I have plenty of FF compatible primes of varying ages, I don't have a need for Canon glass, if I did I'd buy a Canon body.

I wouldn't mess with anyone who carries 304 lenses around.

Another nice set and the standout is 3 for me. I think it would look great with a contrast boost in b&w but for me in colour it is fine as it is, I might even reign in the sharpening a little to give it a softer look.

A very nice set with beautiful light.

The reflected cloud in the first is lovely and, although I can see why it's there, the post gets in the way a bit.

The golden light of the second is gorgeous but the distortion on the lighthouse is a bit of a shame.

The last two are my favourites, great light and composition on 3 and the starburst makes the last.

it won't be so long until you go for the FA 31 Ltd...it's only a matter of time
The 31 is a very fine lens. Looking at the technical analyses it looks just about as good as it gets. And yet I just haven't seen the magic that the 77 and 43 are capable of. Plus although it would make a fine landscape lens the hood means attaching filters is a right pain. So I'm much less tempted by the 31.
