I cannot seem to ever see the whole of a portrait shot.....
once entered... on my monitors...
all but one are 16:9 and 16:10...
and that is my wife's old one....
which at 5:4 does let me see the whole picture...
and I don't always have access to...
but that one is too poor to show the quality...
So what verical pixel size should I enter competitions at for portraits?
Without losing quality!!!

you will be able to get similar pix to number 4....
with a line of brightly coloured Citroën 2CVs along the roadway....
it is the 29th Raid Tan Hill that day...
when 80 to 100 little cars drive from Leeds [Lawnswood Arms] to the Tan Hill Inn!
Another very good photo opportunity for those that like the area....
especially Keld Bank and/or The Buttertubs....
in 1997, we did Raid Reith by default...
the Tan Hill was cut off!!
Camping is allowed for the brave!

In digital, I wouldn't use 100ASA for anything except as a means of reducing light gathering in very bright shots...
it doesn't seem to give better results... as opposed to the analogue days...
especially with todays sensors...
200 min...
very happy with 800 these days... even on the old *istD
had excellent results with 1600... on the K7...
haven't had the time to experiment.... yet... with the K3-2....
but to get a high speed and a decent f.stop and dof, you will need to go away from 100ASA.

Take the time to find a scene with a waterfall in it...
there are loads in the Inverness area...
preferably with some rocks at different distances from you...
and just experiment with the exposures... "film" speeds, shutter speeds and dof...
on the same moving water...
then compare those shots...
I think you will be very surprised at just how far you can move away from 100ASA and still get superb results.... if not better...
film is free these days... experimentation on a real subject is the way to go...
and those dolphins were there thirty years ago....
so you will always be able to go back...
and back....
and back...

Seriously, tho', not everyone is in a position to respond the same day...
you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Not everyone has instant internet access...
business commitments get precedence....
there may be poor connection in the area...
et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera....

Here in France, tomorrow is Remembrance Day and a National Holiday....
the result is that people are "faire un pont"... making a bridge...
using two days holiday to make a Friday PM to Wednesday PM holiday...
the result is that, here, in addition to the w/e, our internet conection has been lousy.

I am upgrading the new machine for "She who must be obeyed" to Fenetres 10....
only 2 Giga.... started at Noon [French time]...
it has been going for five hours and we are only just at 80%...
why?
We are at the end of a five kilometre 'phone line....
the big hamlet inbetween is full of weekenders and their families....
it is quicker to write on tablets of stone and post them!!

Where were you when this picture was taken....
a halo like this is often caused by haze...
either in the immediate vicinity at low level...
or an ice haze high in the atmosphere...
given that many were victims of cloud cover before the eclipse....
this may well have been a forerunner of that.

The "Supermoon" only refers to the appearance on rising and setting...
the moon gets enlarged by a lens effect of the Earth's atmosphere...
coupled with the fact that the Moon is "only" some 363383km from the Earth....
almost its closest [actually in the region of 357K kilometres]...
and therefore larger and brighter.
When the eclipse occurred it was high...
therefore, although larger by it's proximity to Earth....
you would need two photos taken, per example, last night and at the furthest extent of the orbit....
they wouldn't need to be taken at exactly the same place or time....
but would need to be at the same focal length...
and for certitude, the same camera!!
You can then overlay them in Pottyshop....
and see the difference.

where we don't have TV....
pubs close at around 6pm....

And despite the chilly night... 3 degrees here by 4AM....

Part of it, I think, was down to how dark it was...
much darker than I'd expected...
it made focusing very tricky...
yours are way better than mine...
K7, 500 mirror & 2x converter...
best results were with my Opticron 10cm Objective and the iPhone...
second best... K3-2 and Pentax 16-85mm and Pentax 1.4x converter...
the istD and my old Chinon 35-100mm came third...
the K7 trailed in last!
One of the biggest problems in focusing was the glow from the info on the screen...

I have now posted the comments and placings...
guest departed and some WorkAwayers welcomed, I have a spare evening[ish]....
so, now to prepare an evening meal!
